Historical Traveler Reviews of Crowne Plaza Hotel London-St.James Hotel & Suites
Perfect
from sebekdoxy
Usually stay at the Lanesborough, but the sliding dollar made me try
something else. Booked a deluxe one bedroom suite for the week. It was
perfect. Huge room, every amenity- even a stocked full sized fridge.
bathroom was huge with a great amenities. Service was perfect and
invisible. 3 times the space as at the Lanesborough, 1/3 the price and
far superior service. I actually like th location in Westminster (In
between Buckingham palace and Westminster Abbey). Concierge was
flawless and infinitely helpful in arranging cars, theater tickets,
tour tickets and getting us into Gordon Ramsay.
I will never stay anywhere else. If you don't mind the flash modern London decor, this is the place to go.
Beware of "standard room"

Ok...I made a res here based on the reviews previously submitted. I can't say that I was impressed very much by the hotel. (What is it about London that makes it so difficult to find a great room without spending a fortune??) It was not bad, but it was not great by any stretch of the imagination. Here are my obervations: 1. Standard room=small walk in closet. Clean, standard hotel furnishings. I shared a room with my partner and believe me, at the end of four nights, we knew each other really well!
2. Bathroom - clean, but very small; literally could not have two people in there at one time. Good shower with hot water.
3. Weirdest feature - the hair dryer was not in the bathroom, but in a desk drawer opposite the bed. What was worse is that the hair dryer was bolted inside the drawer, which meant that you had to blow dry your hair there and no where else. And no mirror anywhere near the hair dryer.
The location is pretty good, and it's quiet...but I don't think I would stay here again for the money.
Great location, friendly staff.

My husband and I stayed here in Feb. 2003 and we loved it! The location was great, we walked to Buckingham Palace several times, and St. James park is beautiful with all the waterfowl. The room was clean, roomy (for London) and comfortable. I can't say enough about the staff, they were very nice and the service was excellent. My husband became ill with a respratory infection and in the middle of the night they found us an all night drugstore so I could get him some cough medicine, then the next day they made an appointment with a doctor who took great care of him. Even though it is pricy, I would definately stay there again.
Very enjoyable stay in the Crowne Plaza

Stayed at the Crowne Plaza for 4 nights with my wife. We booked a standard double bed room, which had plenty of room compared to some other London hotels I have stayed in, and the bathroom was also spacious and very clean. the heating is self controlled from within the room, which was great, and although we were on the 1st floor, it was fairly quiet all the time. The fitness center is fantastic, and breakfast was far more than you would expect. The location is also great, as the streeet is just 2 min walk from Buckingham palace, and Victoria station is 5 min walk. The nearest Tube station is St. James Park and it is 2 min walk from the hotel. If you can get a good deal, go for this hotel without any second thoughts.

Stayed here for a week in a very comfortable, spacious room. Will be back. Service all around was friendly and made our 40th anniversary special. Quiet and convenient location.
Butlers and Super Service

I loved 51 Buckingham Gate. It was so special with the personalized butler service, the spa, and the location is ideal. It is just up the street from Buckingham Palace. I ran in St. James' park everyday and walked everywhere I needed to be. I did a lot of business there and was able to entertain in my room which had a kitchen and dining room! Very modern and cool.
Excellent service and quality at a good price

Stayed in the Crown Plaza on a shopping weekend with my Mother. From the moment we arrived to the end of our weekend the staff and service was excellent. We stayed in a standard room which was a good size and very comfortable. Very good restaurants within the hotel and the location was perfect ! Have booked again for August.
Perfect international hotel, for a price
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed for almost a week during peak tourist season last summer. I was looking for a hotel with all the amenities as a way to adapt my young children to the adventures of foreign travel, without too much shock. This hotel was perfect--helpful, great location (around the corner from Buck Palace, tube and bus stops.) Very good food for either adult or childish tastebuds, plus in-room movies. Nice and quite popular restaurants and bar next door. "Happening" happy hour scene. All in all, nice London flavor and all the amenities to suit any American unused to the vagaries of international travel!
Fantastic Says It Best

From the generous sized robe, lovely room and impeccable service, my stay was an experience in total relaxation, comfort and hospitality. The rates were an unexpected delight, as the location is so central and charming. I would highly recommend this to anyone traveling. I was on my own on this trip and felt quite safe and pampered.
