Kuala Lumpur
Arrived in Kuala Lumpur on the night rain from Singapore. The first hing I noticed were the people in the train station staring at us. Perhaps paranoia from a restless night on a moving train you might think but the best rest I have had on my travels has been on those surprisingly comfortable locomotives. Anyway we got some cheap food at the train …
Petronas !!!
This was the last leg of our Friends Getaway. We stayed at the comfortable Crowne Plaza Hotel. Did lot of shopping at the Sungei Wang. Later we partied at the Beach Club.
Fake Pants? Gotcha...
Well we've left Asia and it feels kinda weird. No more random sights such as a lines of dead pigs on the back of a scooters or cockroaches for sale on sticks. Tuk-tuks and Songthaews a thing of the past. It's pastures new and we're already feeling the pinch with the Aussie dollar being ridiculously strong at the minute. Hungry Jacks' breakfasts …
Arrival in Malaysia
It was a beautiful autumn morning in Stalybridge as we locked up the house and set out on the first leg of our long journey. We took the train to Manchester Airport and were soon checked in for the 13.30 Emirates flight on one of their new large A380 planes. We could only imagine the luxury that awaited the business and first class passengers on …
The begining of the end of the begining
Well it was Friday afternoon and I had 'finished' packing my backpack. Holly and I had this amazing brainwave that we should go to the casino to celebrate the packing of my backpack and gamble some chips I had won a few nights previous.
Well a few hours passed and I received a phone call from my mother 'Where are you??' ohhh **** it was nearly …

Historical Traveler Reviews Crowne Plaza Mutiara Kuala Lumpur
Chic, Simplistic, Elegant, PERFECT!
The Crowne Plaza Mutiara is exquisite! Newly renovated (I think they spent $14mill or more on renovations) it reminds me a lot of the beautiful 'Hilton' in the 'Gaslamp' quarter of San Diego. Staff are attentive and the rooms are open plan, fresh and bright. The restaurant serves an 'on demand' world buffet, what I mean by on demand is the freshly cooked-to-order way in which it is served. Any cuisine you can imagine is available, and at RM300 a night with breakfast it is unbelievable!
Please see pictures - great pool area and BEAUTIFUL spa! I do not think this hotel is given enough credit - much nicer than JW Marriott!
A very nice hotel
Just returned from a short stay at the Crowne plaza KL. Location is very good as it is in the golden triangle area and also directly opposite the monorail station which can take you to many other areas. The lobby was quite impressive and the driveway to the hotel was lovely with a beautiful fountain halfway. Check in was extremely quick and I was delighted to know that as a platinum card holder I had been upgraded to a club floor suite. The suite was excellent and consisted of a large living room with a guest toilet and connecting to a bedroom with a king sized bed and a large bathroom. The bathroom was of the modern open plan type but you can close the "window" with the shutters. There is a separate shower with a rainshower head. Quality toiletries were provided. Housekeeping were very efficient and it barely toook few minutes for them to respond to any request of mine.High speed internet was available and the rooms had great views of the city skyline as well as the Petronas towers. The lounge was bright and had a good selection of canapes and desserts but no hot snacks. Breakfast was served in the lounge but guests could also chose to have it in the cafe in the lobby. We decided to have it there and what a spread of food was there! No need to have lunch after that! Check out was equally efficient and I can highly recommnned this hotel to both business and leisure travellers.
I can recommand this hotel
We stayed 10 nights at the crowne plaza hotel and my wife and I were very impressed. I can recommand this hotel to everybody. This hotel is one of the best hotels in KL. !! include the breakfast.
Pleasant but disappointing
Just returned from 2 night stay early September good location staff were very helpfull. But the rooms small and could have been cleaner had to change room twice and I still was not happy. There was mould around the bath in one room and everything a bit shabby beds where hard and was given a smoking room which stank. Towels were very worn and we had to ask for most things that should be there. The breakfast was great all in all a bit disappointing. I would never recommend this Hotel nor would I stay again.
Bath with a view
This hotel strikes the right note straight away. Very efficient and pleasant desk staff greet you with a smile and check you in in ultra-quick time.
The room we were given had a fabulous view of the Petronas Towers, but the best thing was the "window to the bathroom" of which you can see a photo in one of the other reviews. While relaxing in your bath, the "open architecture" design allowed you a view of the Petronas Towers at night...it's probably a very minor architectural adjustment to the room, but the results are spectacular.
The breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious. Everything very clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.
OK but not brilliant
Stayed at the Crowne Plaza for 2 nights. Room quite small for the price and the bed was very hard. Club facilities quite good with 3 internet stations and printing facilities which was very welcome. The location is good near to Bintang Walk but given the choice in KL and around, this hotel is rather over-priced for what it gives you.
A Top Notch Hotel
We stayed 7 nights at this Crowne Plaza and my wife and I were very impressed. The first room we got was very well furnished and the wood work around the room gave it a very classy yet comfortable feel. The view from the room looked right at the Petronas Towers. Because the airconditioning in this room was not working properly, the hotel manager moved us to a suite and of course, that room was even a lot better than the first. The spacious, modern, and well-appointed bathrooms were among the best we've seen in our travels. We found the staff very helpful - that includes the front desk, the concierge and the club room. Because the hotel's driveway literally takes you to a monorail stop, it made it very convenient for us to get to various parts of the city. The hotel is also within walking distance of major shopping areas and attractions like the Petronas and KL Towers. If you go, we would recommend paying extra for club room privileges and eating at the hotel's restaurant. Their buffet is extensive and quite good. Overall, I thought we got excellent value for what we paid and I would say that even if our room had not been upgraded.
Highly recommanded
Stayed at this hotel for three nights in a club-room. The room was beautiful with the open bath and rain-shower effect. Very clean and well appointed. The service reminded me of the Hilton service (this hotel used to be the KL Hilton), personalized, remembering your name etc etc.
As you can read in my other reviews on this web-site, I'm very picky about hotels, this one: NO COMPLAINT AT ALL
I can recommand this hotel to everybody who will be visiting KL.
New Mutiara Crown Plaza
We stayed in the newly renovated crown plaza from dec 28, 04 to Jan 03, 2005. Love it......and very close to "Thai Club" walking distance. This hotel is managed by intercontinental group....had my wedding at Intercontinental Hong Kong....no complains at all....highly recommeded. From eric and sandy.
