Thankfully the Amsterdam airport is pretty great and stocked full of flavorful solid food. if you find yourself hubbed here be sure to check out the free museum, TONS of great shopping and tulips ...

I loved the exhibit on West Coast artists – especially the works by David Alexander and Ted Godwin. Of course no trip to Edmonton would be complete without a visit to the West Edmonton Mall. The place was packed with shoppers, families and friends all taking in the ...

    Nice Hotel

    from glynis4

Stayed here for 4 nights in January 2006.

    LOCATION:

Excellent. 5 minute walk to Edmonton City Centre mall (shopping and movie theatre). 2 minute walk to West Edmonton Mall Express bus stop (20-25 min bus ride). Some nice little restaurants in the area (we ate at Cosmos). Room had nice view of river.

    SERVICE:

Express check out was quick and easy. Front desk staff were always pleasant. I requested my room service meal to be delivered at 12pm and it came at exactly 12pm.

    ROOM:

We were on the 21st floor. The room was nothing fancy but the king sized bed was huge and fairly comfortable. The 'Sleep Advantage' program is a neat idea, you are provided with an eye mask, ear plugs, lavender spray, and a relaxation cd (the cd player is right beside the bed). High speed internet and WiFi in room. Breakfast was included in our room rate and consisted of toast, cereal, muffins, fruit, various other pastries and coffee and juice.

The only cons were that the WiFi did not appear to work on the 4th floor (where the meetings we were there for were located) and the revolving restaurant was closed for the entire time we were there. Other then that it was a very nice hotel and I would go back again.

    WiFi problems

    from anonymous

They advertise comp wireless high speed internet, but the signal is weak or non existent in many of their rooms. Several people in my company could not get a signal besides myself. The desk person said they would reset the system,it didn't help. The other suggestion was to sit in the lobby or use the business center. The signal is great in the hallway outside my room. Very frustrating after I unpacked to have to move.

    Good enough

    from quincytoo

I was there for three nights this past weekend. It seemed very busy, the check-in was smooth and easy. They had me on the 6th floor and I hated the room...wallpaper peeling, noisy, small room.

I asked to be moved and they moved me to 1810 which was much nicer. The king bed was very confortable with down quilts and nice large pillows. The lavander room spray was a nice touch as were the ear plugs.

The elevators were alittle on the slow side, and stopped alot on floors, even when they should not have. At first we thought "kids" but it happened to often for that.

    I would stay here again.

Great Value with a nice view

    from ronnyber

I stayed here on business for two nights in August 2005. No complaints as everything was in order as I checked in early around 1:30 PM. The King room was clean and comfortable with free hi-speed wireless internet. I loved the view of the city from my 16th floor room. The only meal I had on site was in the revolving restaurant at the top of the hotel. My dinner was very good and the ride around was enjoyable. My company paid a corporate rate of $105 which in my opinion makes this hotel an exceptional buy. I had rented a car and tacked on anothe $8 per night for parking in the hotel garage. The location was convienient to many restaurants and amenities in the downtown core. I was even able to take in a movie at the Edmonton City Centre which was only a five minute walk.

Revolving restaurant + river valley view + reasonable price = winner

    from asianphilosopher

A hotel of high calibre all around.

A consistently good location for wedding banquets and business receptions, the Crowne Plaza Chateau Lacombe is a great value, dollar for dollar. While not as luxurious or grand as other Edmonton Hotels such as the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald or the Westin Hotel, this hotel has several advantages in its favor.

    ROOMS:

Over the last few years, the hotel has renovated and refurbished all the guest rooms. The beds are very comfortable. Bathroom facilities include a good quality bathrub and shower. The standard amenties are provided, including high-speed internet access. Room service is available for your late night requests.

    SERVICE:

Front desk staff has always been friendly and helpful. Any requests were quickly attended to.

    RESTAURANT:

This hotel has Edmonton's only revolving restaurant. You are provided with 360 degree panoramic views of Edmonton. One full revolution around the building takes about 80 minutes. The restaurant fare has much improved over the years. Living in Edmonton, I frequent its revolving restaurant on special occasions. Reservations are a must for holiday times or when a major event is in town. The Maitre D', Hans, provides extremely polite, courteous, and dignified service. His assistant Maitre D', Aaron provides the same calibre of service. Enjoy exotic Alberta fare like Bison/Buffalo, or the occasional alternative game meat (venison, etc.). Alberta beef is always a good choice. Dessert options are also very good. I often go with friends for a dessert, martini or a specialty coffee. There is regular live entertainment. A gentleman on the electronic keyboard is often accompanied by a talented female vocalist. They are there most evenings after 7 p.m.

    BANQUET FACILITIES:

The Crowne Plaza has large banquet/conference facilities which can easily host more than 300 people in a room. The quality of food is consistently good. I have been to quite a few wedding receptions and other parties at this hotel. The staff also provide assistance with coat check service when a banquet is being held.

    PARKING:

Parking is reasonably priced and is about $9-10 per day. Valet service is available.

    LOCATION:

Ask for a room with a river valley view. The evening view is spectacular. If there is an evening thunderstorm in the summer, you're in for quite a dramatic light show! The location of the hotel is within 3 blocks of major downtown shopping centers like Edmonton City Centre Mall (East & West), Manulife Place, and Commerce Place. The best high-end stores (e.g. Henry Singer Menswear, Holt Renfrew, Diamori Jewellers) are located in Manulife Place and Commerce Place.

Hotel is located approximately 20 minutes by car/taxi trip to West Edmonton Mall. The river valley is at your doorsteps. You may want to go for a nice evening stroll. The neighbourhood is reasonably safe, particularly to the east where Alberta College is situated. The University of Alberta campus is a 5 minute drive away, across the river.

    PRICING:

Weekend rates are very good. You may be lucky to get rates for $89 Canadian per evening. Romance specials are often available.

    OVERALL:

Having stayed at the hotel quite a few times while my residence was undergoing a renovation, I became quite comfortable here. I am a regular patron of its revolving restaurant. A great romantic place to bring your significant other or romantic interest. If you come to Edmonton and stay elsewhere, do try to visit the revolving Restaurant called "La Rond". You will have a very memorable time. Come near sunset for the best atmosphere.

I would highly recommend this hotel as a high calibre hotel for reasonable prices. They also give Air Canada Aeroplan points, Air Miles, and other loyalty program points. Please also feel free to read my reviews on the following hotels as of September 3rd, 2005:

Above average (for what you pay)

    from Bukwaas

Moved here from a really crappy motel in south Edmonton after getting a good deal on it off the Net. Looks great from the outside! Were impressed by the easily accessible location. Don't pay the $8.56 for overnight parking unless you're staying in all day, as you'll find free street parking nearby (metered Mon-Sat, only from 9a-6p). Bit noisy at night if you face north, as there are some bars/pubs close by. Plus, there was a wedding going on downstairs in the banquet room, although there wasn't too much noise pollution from that. Relatively safe area, and nice to go for a jog, as you'll be down to the river in less than 5 minutes. Tim Horton's is less than 5 minutes away. The gym was a bit smaller than you'd expect for the property. Lack of a pool was also a bit odd. Rooms were very nice, the huge king-size bed was great, and they even have a CD player! Room service was fast (we needed towels and the guy was up in less than 2 minutes!), and the registration and checkout were easy.

Would recommend this place if you want a decent value hotel located centrally in downtown Edmonton.

    Overrated

    from CAFamily

This was a very nice looking hotel, with all the fancy amenities, but it did not live up to our expectations. The beds were very lumpy, the crib they supplied looked as if it was going to fall apart, and when we put our towels in the tub to be replaced, they weren't...the maid took the towels but didn't replace all of them. All the restaurants were closed by 9pm, and the neighboring areas weren't too promising. (Tim Horton's was one of the closest restaurants and was always busy.)

If you do go, ask for a room that faces the river. Our room faced the street and it was very noisy.

Very nice hotel in a great location with a great view

    from simeon

We only stayed one night in August and found the room and service to be excellent and professional. We got an incredible rate for high season and a wonderful view of the river and city. It is a very unique looking (round) hotel. This will be our first choice next time we are in Edmonton

    Horrible banquet booking agent

    from NicoleEdmonton

I dealt with a lady at the Crowne Plaza when booking our wedding * more than likely cannot say a name on this site so I won't). To start she was efficient. The wedding came and went without a hitch, but after she tried to bill us extra for drinks she claimed the guests had order (these were specialty cognacs, etc. that were over $50 a snifter). I had specifically left instructions not to let a guest exceed a beverage of $8.00 per order, and these special cognacs totalled over $1,000 by the time the evening was finished. When we tried to discuss this with her, she was rude and obnoxious. I don't believe all staff at the hotel are like this, but she certainly left a poor taste in our mouth after her horrible treatment. I say a true reflection of service is how they deal with something when they have nothing more to gain, and this woman failed miserably. We will not deal with this hotel EVER again due to her obnoxious treatment of us and lack of professionalism.

    Great place to stay

    from anonymous

A grand hotel in an excellent location with great views of the river.

This hotel was very easy to find and also had good underground parking.

The room was spacious, bright and spotless. The staff were also very friendly and eager to please and I have no problem recommending it wholeheartedly. My advice would be to get in touch with the hotel direct to find out about special deals, we managed to get free breakfast and parking during our stay.
