Old Town Alexandria is a very cool place. They have lots of great stores and restaurants among the old buildings. The town of Alexandria goes back to the early to mid-1700s. It was bone-chilling cold when we were there in November, and we had to buy some extra layers just to stay warm. We were able to see the Christmas tree lighting in the main square and that was a lot of fun. The square was filled to the brim with people. Everyone "ooohed" and "aaahed" when all the lights came on. We also w...
Alexandria, Virginia, United States kitkatgoIt was freezing cold, so different than the last couple of days. We ate at a local pancake house next door to the hotel in Williamsburg. OMG it was so good. Apparently pancakes are a big deal in Williamsburg because we had driven down the main street and counted *several* pancake houses. We then got everything packed up and in the car. We stopped by the Merchant's square for some last minute shopping. Then we headed to Herndon where our hotel was located and got checked in. We drove around a ...

... stay. We had a very nice visit with them and it kind of picked up from where we left off all those years ago. We had a nice lunch in the the town of Chestertown, MD then back to their house for some more catching up then we departed.
We basically took MD 213 on a diagonal path to the southwest and finally got on US 50 that took us across the bay bridge to the Annapolis, MD area. I was worried this was going to ...
... more information. A garage. They open the garage door and--you guessed it--years worth of mail came tumbling out. Very funny. And K. knows how to tell a story. Today K. (not the same K.) gave me a Thai massage. Amazing. So much tension in the legs. It is such a deliberate and intelligent technique. You can follow the rationale behind it. With sensing. Very cool. Well, this isn't getting my bags packed.
Herndon, Virginia, United States sneakytrees... with Rebuilding Together and interviewed with them today, though there is no spanish there so they are not high on the list (If you are not familiar with RT it is a home repair organization for folks in poverty, the elderly, disabled etc and the Portland chapter is on UP's campus :) ) Fri we also had lunch at our Prof's house to discuss internships which was swell and the folks in the group seem nice still :) The weekend I went to NC which will be in a ...
Washington, District of Columbia, United States kbort... t technically supposed to do this with us because of Yossi's fathers death and Tali's uncles passing but since it was their night they decided they needed it and that it would be ok. So, we went out! Everyone had an absolute blast and for the majority of the night our group had the place to themselves. It was the first time I was able to watch Leon, Shaul, and Yossi laugh, dance, sing, and truly enjoy themselves since we arrived. We loved our trip but ...
Herndon, Virginia, United States aarika... a treat! Here we get given freshly made cookies every night, but for some reason we'd all been craving icecream! I've gotta lay off the candy, I'm trying to lose weight not put it on!! After icecream we were all in a pretty awesome mood and we rehearsed some of the camp songs we have to memorise for when the kids arrive. So everything is set now. It'll be a couple of days til I get any more time off as we have to get to know our bunk and stay with them for ...
Harrison, Maine, United States jordancp... to get a free ticket on Continental Airline for my upcoming trip. However, this free ticket only takes me to Europe, I will need to buy another ticket to South Africa. But I found most fare to Southern Africa from North America cost at least $1600, while from Europe to Southern Africa: around $900 to $1000, this could save me at least $600 to $900... It's exciting! I am leaving for Caribbean tomorrow (and leave the cold North American weather behind)....
Washington, District of Columbia, United States whk2006... to get through that they opened my departure gate. A 20 minute walk ensued to Gate 17 where I sat in the lounge for all of 15 minutes before they said we could board the plane. The plane was quite small - a 2-3-2 seat formation. I ended up sat next to a guy who looked and sounded like Kris Akabusi, but he was well behaved so it was okay. The flight was not okay however. We had about 6 hours of turbulence out of the 8 hours flying time - i have never wanted to throw up on a ...
Washington, District of Columbia, United States loxias... the sight of mile long lines. There must have been at least 500 non-US citizens, waiting in line for immigrations. We were standing in line for 3 hours! As if that wasn't enough, the fire alarm had gone off, and apparently nobody could stop it. It was driving everybody in sane. When we finally got through the line, we just missed our flight to Miami. Due to the long lines in immigrations we were not the only ones missing our flight, so there ...
