Back to Queenstown after the Invercargill game, arrived in the hotel bar around midnight. Next day, a jet boat ride in a ravine. 85kph through gaps in rocks and sunken trees just big enough to take the boat, 360 degree spins, great stuff. It was really cold but a brilliant hangover cure. You would never get this in the UK. The Nanny State would insist on all sorts of safeguards that would take the edge off the fun. From Queenstown to Christchurch. Nice to be back in a city again after all tha...
Christchurch, New Zealand dave_and_siHi all, Sorry about spelling in skydive entry - I forgot to spellcheck before I sent it! We pushed on to Dunedin after Queenstown for a spot of Albatross watching and a tour of the Speights Brewery House. Both were fab although we spent more time and money in one than the other!! had a couple of nights in Dunedin but pretty quiet as students not back in town yet (it's their long summer holiday and they come back last week in Feb). Actually the brewery usually only brews 3 days a week but a fe...

We started our day in Christchurch with brekkie at a quirky café called C1 Espresso and then headed off to do a walking tour of the city in the autumn sunshine.
We liked Christchurch. It is known as the most English of the NZ cities and it certainly has a very relaxed ambiance with some lovely sights including the sleepy Avon River running right the way through the middle.
After our walk we decided on some punting along the river in the afternoon (with someone else doin...

... a kind of thank you. However wife points out that far from returning a friendly gesture he seemed to be frowning and definitely angry! Looking back at my stupidity I feel like kicking myself, for while driving into Wanaka, we are soon tailed by a police car with its top light blinking. Something I had never experienced before but seen often enough in hollywood flicks. I pull over, come out am motioned to get back in and wait, while the cop is speaking to who else but ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand gkpradeep... solved. He returns to Inga and initiates a pleasant conversation with us about their travels and homeland, all the time glancing in the direction of Herr Laurie's wagon. Apparently, they'd been told not to stay in campgrounds by themselves - for safety purposes. Whilst sensible, I pointed out that actually camping on top of people was probably not needed. Nice enough couple, just not thinking. We left them that night none the wiser to Herr Laurie's real character. They were gone ...
Highways of New Zealand's South Island, South Island, New Zealand harleynut... making in -25C, and i dont really understand how people can (or would want to) live in Canada or Russia if it gets that cold! After this part of the trip we got to see little blue penguins, which were great, as i love penguins! All the ones that were there were poorly and so were being looked after by the centre. Once we have more permanent work we will start going further afield with our time off, hence having more to report.
So, first impressions of Christchurch ...
... would be eyeing up a large stack of rolls (fig.9), things would have been so very different (although only marginally so, if at all). We all went to the Antarctic Centre and experienced a room of freezing temperatures where Lindsay looked a bit special needs (fig.10). After a big picnic by a lake, me and Panini smashed up a remote controlled helicopter and set off for Fiji. Thanks for having us Liz and G and Poppy and Molly and Affie and the flies.
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand rickyfondant... side of the road). We got to the top and stopped to take a picture of the bay below, but noticed our car was boiling and losing water! Unfortunately the temperature gauge never worked, and we didn't notice it. We popped the hood, or rather, we popped the seat - the motor is stored under the passenger seat! And then called AAA (or ADAC for Germans), which in NZ is actually called AA. After talking to them for awhile trying to explain which backwater road we were on, we saw the ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand andreatChristchurch is considered to be the most "English" city in New Zealand and was also our last stop for the NZ trip. We pulled into our car park called Stonehurst which was only two blocks from the city center. We had a nice walk around the city viewing some historical churches, art museums and galleries and the Christchurch Botanical Gardens. The Churches had ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand jamemorgBefore I start this morning, can I just step back a few days and say that Singapore women are the most naturally beautiful that I've ever seen. Not just the flight attendants, but in 4 hours at the airport I failed to see a woman that didn't have the ethereal beauty they seem to share. I only bring this up because it was one of the many thoughts running through my head yesterday during my first bike ride in New Zealand - a 60km epic spanning mountains, road sections akin to what you see in ...
