When In Bruges

Last week was another insane week at the Castle.  My time here is very busy and therefore goes by way too quickly! The way the weeks are set up here, it little or no time at all to relax.  We all travel every weekend, and then get back Sunday night.  Monday we have classes again and then we are busy with school until before we know it, it is Thursday night again and time to leave on another trip.   This week Vanessa's parents came to visit!  On Thursday they came to the castle and saw our roo...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Crowne Plaza Hotel Brugge

Nothing special

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were staying on 17 & 18 Sept 2004 in 4th floor.

The carpet in the coridor and our room is old and dirty. The lobby & the bar are nice. Nothing special with this hotel. I will grade it 3* instead of 4*.

Excellent Location - If You Can Find It

from Peripatetic_Engineer
I finished work a day early and the opportunity to spend a night here at the last minute. I booked through their web site with no problems. On driving in, I found the map on their web site was less than useful. Brugge can be a confusing city to drive in but once I found the hotel, they had parking available. It is centrally located and within walking distance of the entire town. The room was a little small but it was very comfortable. Check in/check out was fast and easy.

The Best

from mark-southside
In my 47 years I had never been to Brugge, imagining it to be an over-hyped small town, infested with grey tourists and coach parties on their way back from Holland (no offence).

So with trepidation I booked for my family and rather bravely decided to take the car.

I first rang the hotel and checked they could accommodate our son in a seperate bed, and that they had a swimming pool. I was politely re-assured this was the case.

With my map off the Internet, we faced Brugge at rush hour but to my amazement found the hotel at first attempt, and I am talking a location in the heart of the old city. There is an underground car park and in short order we were checked in. We were put in a lovely wooden panelled room overlooking a quiet side street.

We had a very pleasant evening in Brugge and back to the hotel where they supplied milk for our son.

Back in the room there was a good range of toiletries, robes, etc and two large double beds. We had a few things from the mini bar, expensive, but hey we're on holiday

We used the hotel Pool which unusually is up high in the building rather than in a basement.

Breakfast next morning was the best ever I've had in a hotel. Served in a sunny conservatory facing a Square, there was every conceivable option. I pigged out on smoked salmon and croissants.

Checkout was faultless.

I've looked on the web site since and prices seem to have drifted upwards, perhaps out our range for a holiday stop-over.

If you arrive by train its either a 20/30 min walk, a taxi or there is a minibus that stops nearby if you can fathom the timetable.

If you can afford it, this hotel as great.

Great Hotel, Great Location

from Wimsey
Lovely hotel, friendly staff, well situated, economical and clean. After a hectic train ride from Brussels, the welcoming and efficient staff at the Crowne Plaza were a pleasant relief. We managed to get an excellent room rate arriving unannounced late in the day. (sometimes it doesn't pay to book ahead). The room was very large and well equipped, and had some of the old world charm of Brugge with touches like exposed beams and dormer windows.

Has gone down hill over the past 2 years but still a good hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and after that visit I would have given it an excellent rating. In fact I liked the hotel and its location so much that I returned to it last week. This time I was disappointed. The hotel room rate is very pricey and does not include breakfast. A buffet breakfast is available at 20 euros and is charged to your room on a daily basis whether or not you take it. Obviously if you have not taken the breakfast it is deducted from the bill without any argument. However, this takes time, so don't expect a quick departure if you have not taken the breakfast. Also watch for charges being made to your bill from the minibar when you have not used it. Again when you point this out to staff the charges are removed without argument. However, I want to relax in the hotel and do not wish to keep complaining about charges I have not incurred.

I would now rate this hotel as a good to average hotel. It will shortly require to be refurbished as it is beginning to show signs of wear and tear. When they do this management should consider additional sound proofing between rooms.

Most meticulous hotel I have ever visited

from YWait
This hotel is very modern and the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was very nice as were the furnishings, large bath and wonderful linens. Again all very modern. I've read here somewhere that the hotel is 10 years old. It looks brand new because it is so well maintained. We felt so at home and comfortable there as if all our needs were met from the moment we stepped in the door. Loved the chocolate!

The staff was very friendly and helpful with restaurant suggestions.

The location is absolutely wonderful on a beautiful historic square and we could easily walk wherever we wanted to go.

There is also an unearthed archaeological dig in the basement of this hotel if you have the time to look at it. It's been incorporated into the design of the basement.

Must also say thank you to the most lovely citizens of Brugges who are unparalleled in hospitality.

Highly Recommended

Faultless, excellent service, friendly and helpful, breakfast superb, great location in one of the main squares, Irish pub next door...fantastic

Best hotel yet

from A TripAdvisor Member
Have been to Brugge 3 times in last two years and this was definitely the best hotel yet. Lovely room and excellent staff all round! Two restaurants, one bistro type, the other quite expensive but excellent with marvellous service. Will not need to look elsewhere when we return again soon!

Perfect location and great 4 star hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Although it was hard for us to find (we drove to Bruges from Brussels) the hotel was wonderful. Underground parking, large room with two queen beds, internet connection in large lobby, beautiful bar and large (but costly) restaurant. Location once we were in Bruges could not have been more perfect, as virtually the entire city is within walking disstance.

The hotel is housed in a new (10 year) building with large bathrooms and I would highly recommend staying here.

Crowne Plaza Brugge, highly recommend

from A TripAdvisor Member
My family (three kids, ages 10,8,5) went to Brugge at the end of Dec 2002. Spent 2 nights at the Crowne Plaza Brugge. Stayed in a Junior suite consisting with a king bed and fold out couch. The room was large and comfortable, the bed was good, the couch was lousy. Should have taken two rooms but the hotel was busy, choices limited.

The hotel was very good. It was clean, up to date, staff helpful, EXCELLENT location (right next to market square). Easy to take a break in the middle of the day. Hotel has a small but very nice indoor pool on the top floor. Two restaurants, one was simple "bistro" with very good food, outstanding breakfast buffet and was great for meals with young kids (very reasonable kids menu, friendly staff).

Would highly recommend hotel if travelling to Brugge.
