Auckland - our first impressions

Just in our backpackers at the moment, jumping on the internet to check a couple of things and having a chill out. We have spent the day exploring Auckland, going to a market up the road from our hotel, then to underwater world and antarctic encounter where we got up close to some monster penguins, and then had a massive hike carrying our bags from Crowne Plaza to the backpackers. its a big change from the hotel, i dont think julie likes it that much yet but only cause she hasnt stayed in on...

New Continent - New Start

"Every flyer who ventures across oceans to distant lands is a potential explorer; in his or her breast burns the same fire that urged adventurers of old to set forth in their sailing ships for foreign lands". (Jean Battern 1979.). It is early in the morning when we stroll blery eyed through Auckland Airport. The long flight and the cross over the international dateline had left us somewhat disorianted, not only by hours but days. After pasing through imigration easily and having our boots and...

Sight-seeing in Auckland

I got up at 6:00 am and got packed. I ordered breakfast from room service (it is really cheap here at this hotel). I checked out at 7:30 and caught a cab to the airport. When I arrived at the Christchurch Airport, there was no one working at the Quantas Check-in Desk. There was, however, a long line of travelers waiting to check in. At about 8:00 am, a couple of employees came wandering in and opened the check-in. I had already used the kiosk to check in, so all I needed to do was to check my...

Kayaking Cathedral Cove

I got up at about 6:00 am and got showered and shaved. I called at 8:00 am to find out if the kayaking trip was still on. I spoke to Mike, and he said it was beautiful weather and the trip was a go (no x or check boxes involved!). I went down to the lobby and asked the concierge for directions. Let me say a word about directions from concierges...I have dealt with a number of concierge services since I left on this trip. Not all of them give good, concise, understandable directions. However, ...

Boiling Lakes and Gloworms

My day today was not really well planned out unfortunately. My plan was to drive to the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland south of Rotorua and then to the Gloworm Cave at Waitoma. For starters, Rotorua is not that far from the Coromandel Penninusula, so it would have made more sense for me to spend the night there after kayaking instead of driving back to Auckland last night. But, I didn't do that. So I had to drive 3 and 1/2 hours to get to Rotorua. I had hoped to get there by 10:00 am, so I cou...

Wow - Wicked Stuff!

We we have handed the van back, and all is well.... no problemo! We then got a taxi into the City of Auckland as we are staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel for the next two nights. While in the city, we went for a long walk around the hilly centre, looked in loads of the book stores, and watched a few people 'bungy/skydive' off the Sky Tower - these people are crazy! This evening we had a lovely meal in the hotels restaurant... the 3 course meal was fabulous!

Historical Traveler Reviews of Crowne Plaza Hotel Auckland

Sleek, modern, and excellent

from radio71
The Auckland Crowne Plaza is one of the best advance-purchase deals I have ever booked. Their website offered an incredible deal...something like $80 (U.S.) for a weeknight. I'm telling you: take any offer near this price. The hotel is modern, sleek, extremely quiet, well-located, and offers a great night's sleep. Plus, the new (just updated) restaurant is excellent. (Hotel restaurants are always iffy - but this one is really, really good).

I simply cannot recommend this hotel enough, especially at the price I got. It is not terribly fancy, but it is spotless, quiet, comfortable, and -very- modern.

Also, go ahead and pay $10 extra for a "high view" room facing the harbor. Well worth it!

Can't fault it

from atob
Sparkly hotel, mainly catering for the business traveller, this hotel is in a great spot only a few minutes walk to most of the tourist attractions. Lovely clean rooms, spacious. No valet parking but a public car park next door had a reserved floor for hotels guests.

Fantastic breakfasts!

Great choice

from celt32girl
Stayed here for 2 nights in June 2004. Had spent several hours at Auckland airport after a (very) early morning arrival on the assumption that we would not be able to check in early. Finaly succumbed to exhaustion about 11.30am and checked in with no problems whatsoever! Great location - fairly central to everything important. Rooms very good and choice of tv channels especially impressive. Building work on new hotel ongoing over road but no interference whatsoever with our trip. Beds very comfy and excellent clean bathroom. Would highly recommend. Also obtained very reasonable rates.

Very nice hotel

A very nice hotel. Great downtown location. Stay on the Club level floors for only a little more money, but it includes access to the Club Lounge. The Club Lounge hosts breakfast and evening drinks and snacks. The food was definitely worth the extra cost.

Excellent Hotel!

I stayed at the Crown Plaza Auckland for 3 nights. This hotel is in a perfect location; just one block from the SkyTower, one block to the main downtown shopping and entertainment areas, and a 10 minute walk to the ferry terminal, train station, and the America's Cup Village. The hotel itself is connected to a small indoor shopping mall.

ALL of the staff were friendly and helpful. Check-in only took a few minutes. The concierge happily assisted me with tourism questions and provided me with free maps. Even the housekeeper greeted me each morning and asked if I was having a pleasant stay and told me that if I needed anything to just ask.

The room was good sized and tastefully furnished. The bed was especially comfortable and the comforter was a nice touch. There was an iron and ironing board in the room as well as an Internet connection for a small fee. The bathrooms were large with marble tiles on wall and floor. The bathroom had a tub AND separate shower. Very nice bathroom amenities were provided.

The Crown Plaza Auckland is an elegant hotel providing comfort and a great location at a reasonable price. I highly recommend this hotel.

Very nice

A very good hotel. We have traveled extensively all over the world and would definitely rate this one at least a 4-star. Alll amenities; good central location. Breakfast included in price. Would highly recommend.

Professional, attention to detail

from kabanj
Quiet and comfortable rooms, excellent service and friendly staff. I had to travel to Auckland for a wedding in February 2004. I had a long and busy week beforehand, and as a result I could not make some rather important travel arrangements for my subsequent days in New Zealand. I even forgot my toothbrush! To my great relief, the concierge basically took the trouble off my hand and organised my travel for me. He even gave me a free toothbrush. It is the attention to details that count.

Great for business travellers and holiday maker alike. Will definitely stay there again.

Travelling with twin baby boys

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had 5mo old twin baby boys, travelling with a mountain of things - pram, steriliser, bottles, toys etc. Hotel provided us 2 cots without charge, 2 beds, extra towels, bedding; conceirge organised a babysitter for us for a few hours who was excellent. Everything was not a problem.

Staff very friendly from the conceirge helping us loading/ unloading, the front desk, the housekeeping lady etc. Excellent room. Great breakfast at the restaurant. Internet price very competitive. In our view 5 stars at a 3 star price Right in the city with everything handy.

Highly recommended. We'll be back.

A good place to stay at the price

from Thorndon
A good fairly priced and well run middle level hotel in a good location in central Auckland. Very handy to many restaurants, main shopping area, theatres etc. Good parking which is a bonus.

Top Hotel.
