Auckland

A travel blog entry by arthurandhelen

We slept like stone lions for plenty of hours last night, so feeling pretty good this morning:-) Stayed on the 26th floor of a town centre hotel last night with panoramic views of the city and now its's coffee and breakfast now, then a few supplies from the supermarket over the road before we head more or less north. Weather is warm, life is …

Very hot again. Leaving boat today on return to Lautoka, so spent first thing this morning packing cases. Chris went to breakfast but I didn’t as felt a bit queasy with the rolling movement of boat. He brought me some toast and drink back with him. Also couldn’t stand too well so thought it safer to stay where I was than attempt to get …

Sunny and warm. Had a lazy morning, finally leaving hotel at 10.00am. Walked to Skytower and Tourist Info. Decided to catch sightseeing bus from outside Skytower. Did full a circuit, which took an hour then stopped at Harbour for a walk around. As we had no breakfast this morning and we’re starving stopped at café on harbourside, opposite …

We finally completed our loooooong trip to Auckland (New Zealand's most populous city), arriving on the North Island at about 7:30 a.m. New Zealand Daylight Savings Time (NZDST). Yes, Dayllight Savings Time because not only did we lose a day (3/17/11 will NEVER exist for us), but we have gone from winter to summer!

Charleen unfortunately …

Just in our backpackers at the moment, jumping on the internet to check a couple of things and having a chill out. We have spent the day exploring Auckland, going to a market up the road from our hotel, then to underwater world and antarctic encounter where we got up close to some monster penguins, and then had a massive hike carrying our bags …

Historical Traveler Reviews Crowne Plaza Auckland

    Sleek, modern, and excellent

    from radio71

The Auckland Crowne Plaza is one of the best advance-purchase deals I have ever booked. Their website offered an incredible deal...something like $80 (U.S.) for a weeknight. I'm telling you: take any offer near this price. The hotel is modern, sleek, extremely quiet, well-located, and offers a great night's sleep. Plus, the new (just updated) restaurant is excellent. (Hotel restaurants are always iffy - but this one is really, really good).

I simply cannot recommend this hotel enough, especially at the price I got. It is not terribly fancy, but it is spotless, quiet, comfortable, and -very- modern.

Also, go ahead and pay $10 extra for a "high view" room facing the harbor. Well worth it!

    Can't fault it

    from atob

Sparkly hotel, mainly catering for the business traveller, this hotel is in a great spot only a few minutes walk to most of the tourist attractions. Lovely clean rooms, spacious. No valet parking but a public car park next door had a reserved floor for hotels guests.

    Fantastic breakfasts!

    Great choice

    from celt32girl

Stayed here for 2 nights in June 2004. Had spent several hours at Auckland airport after a (very) early morning arrival on the assumption that we would not be able to check in early. Finaly succumbed to exhaustion about 11.30am and checked in with no problems whatsoever! Great location - fairly central to everything important. Rooms very good and choice of tv channels especially impressive. Building work on new hotel ongoing over road but no interference whatsoever with our trip. Beds very comfy and excellent clean bathroom. Would highly recommend. Also obtained very reasonable rates.

    Very nice hotel

A very nice hotel. Great downtown location. Stay on the Club level floors for only a little more money, but it includes access to the Club Lounge. The Club Lounge hosts breakfast and evening drinks and snacks. The food was definitely worth the extra cost.

    Excellent Hotel!

I stayed at the Crown Plaza Auckland for 3 nights. This hotel is in a perfect location; just one block from the SkyTower, one block to the main downtown shopping and entertainment areas, and a 10 minute walk to the ferry terminal, train station, and the America's Cup Village. The hotel itself is connected to a small indoor shopping mall.

ALL of the staff were friendly and helpful. Check-in only took a few minutes. The concierge happily assisted me with tourism questions and provided me with free maps. Even the housekeeper greeted me each morning and asked if I was having a pleasant stay and told me that if I needed anything to just ask.

The room was good sized and tastefully furnished. The bed was especially comfortable and the comforter was a nice touch. There was an iron and ironing board in the room as well as an Internet connection for a small fee. The bathrooms were large with marble tiles on wall and floor. The bathroom had a tub AND separate shower. Very nice bathroom amenities were provided.

The Crown Plaza Auckland is an elegant hotel providing comfort and a great location at a reasonable price. I highly recommend this hotel.

    Very nice

A very good hotel. We have traveled extensively all over the world and would definitely rate this one at least a 4-star. Alll amenities; good central location. Breakfast included in price. Would highly recommend.

    Professional, attention to detail

    from kabanj

Quiet and comfortable rooms, excellent service and friendly staff. I had to travel to Auckland for a wedding in February 2004. I had a long and busy week beforehand, and as a result I could not make some rather important travel arrangements for my subsequent days in New Zealand. I even forgot my toothbrush! To my great relief, the concierge basically took the trouble off my hand and organised my travel for me. He even gave me a free toothbrush. It is the attention to details that count.

Great for business travellers and holiday maker alike. Will definitely stay there again.

    Travelling with twin baby boys

    from anonymous

We had 5mo old twin baby boys, travelling with a mountain of things - pram, steriliser, bottles, toys etc. Hotel provided us 2 cots without charge, 2 beds, extra towels, bedding; conceirge organised a babysitter for us for a few hours who was excellent. Everything was not a problem.

Staff very friendly from the conceirge helping us loading/ unloading, the front desk, the housekeeping lady etc. Excellent room. Great breakfast at the restaurant. Internet price very competitive. In our view 5 stars at a 3 star price Right in the city with everything handy.

    Highly recommended. We'll be back.

A good place to stay at the price

    from Thorndon

A good fairly priced and well run middle level hotel in a good location in central Auckland. Very handy to many restaurants, main shopping area, theatres etc. Good parking which is a bonus.

    Top Hotel.
