The Talented Mr Harden

... to Almafi. Which was only about 60 k's away according to Google maps. But it took 2 ½ hours to get there. This was because of crazy Italian traffic combined with terrifying S bends on the sides of mountains. The bus drivers all have death wishes almost drifting around the corners as you look out the window with a 50 meter drop the whole time. The roads are barely large enough to fit 2 cars at the same time as well. I have never been car sick but I got to say I felt a ...

Giovanni shows us the Amalfi Coast!!

... take him but he already had 4 dogs and 17 cats at home!!! I loved him for that. Anyway, on to the Amalfi coast and the town of Sorrento. On the way up a 2 lane windy road rising along the ocean we saw a million lemon trees and olive trees. There were all these kind of hammocks between the trees to catch the falling olives and the lemons were the size of small grapefruit. On the way up we stopped at a ...

Dirty, tasty Napoli

... tourist lunch. We caught the train back to Naples and had dinner, then Jules took us out for cake and the very best gelato I will ever have in my life. It was seriously one of the most beautiful taste sensations on the planet and I had the privilege of enjoying it – it was chocolate flavor for the record, the best flavor there is. We spent the rest of the evening playing Guitar Hero ‘Beatles’ style with Jules and his brother Marco – it was ...

Napoli home of Pizza!!!! Oh such good Pizza

... walked away from your step for a minute you would loose it and be outlawed to go find a rail to sit on. At midnight and with the 50 minutes up and still no sign of the train a new announcement came over the loud speakers saying the train would now be delayed by 175 minutes. 175 BLOODY MINUTES. What the hell is wrong with these people. 175 minutes and not even one bloody SEAT!!!!!!! By the time Shona had paced 5 meters and turned around ...

Actually Capri, Sorrento and Pompeii

... included the size of the site that was only one third of the actual city. The excavations were of excellent conditions because of the nature of the disaster. He saw, bodies, pottery, homes, frescoes, altars, streets, plumbing, pedestrian walkways, night lights made of marble, and the remains of a highly advanced civilization. And it was all buried in ash in 79 AD.

Very dusty Pompei!!

We visited a brothel! lol had some pictures on the wall so sailors etc could come in and point to what they wanted. The beds were craved out rock!! Ouch!! The square was surrounded by banks, admin buildings, market places and templates etc.

A nice place to visit but not to stay

We were flabbergasted by Pompei and not in a good way. We got off the highway into the center of town. We only had a map from the B&B's website to go on. Well, if it is possible, Pompeii was even nastier than Naples. The roads were grimy, the traffic was horrendous, and there were NO STREET SIGNS! We had no way of knowing where we were or ...

When Can I Move In?

Holy Moly do some people know how to live the high life. Two train rides totalling 40 minutes from Napoli brought me to the quaint town that is Caserta. Far from quaint however, is the Reggia Vanvitelliana...the Palace of Caserta, which can most aptly be described as colossal. (I want to say palatial, but I suppose that's a given!) So just to spit some facts at you...the ...

a trip to Pompeii

... Eurail's were delayed for some reason, so our ride took even longer. We had nicer seats though and slept most of the way home. I'm not sure what we are doing tonight...most of us get so tired during the day it takes a lot of motivation to get us to go out at night, so we'll see. Tomorrow is an entire free day, so that will be nice. We still have a few major sites we want to see in Rome, so it's either that or the beach if it's nice...Ciao!
