... covers my (oh so tanned) ears. <br><br>Jordan is an interesting mix of modern urbanisation and traditionalism. People once again are friendly and interested in us and our way of life. Exchanges over a cup of tea are never far away.<br><br>We visit the stone-hewn wonder of Petra, nearly 1000s years of temples and tombs in a mountain valley, and walk in the steps of Lawrence of Arabia at Wadi Rum. Yet another unforgettable, mystical and beautiful experience.
Amman, Jordan manic-trip... Hadrian’s Gate, built to commemorate the visit of Emperor Hadrian to Jerash in 129 AD, and the Temple of Artemis which has 11 out of the 12 front columns still standing. <br><br>There are two colonnaded streets and they intersect in the main oval plaza. The spacious oval plaza measures 80 m. (262 ft.) by 90 m. (295 ft.). The principal colonnaded street is 800 m. (2,625 ft.) long and still paved with the original stones dating back to the 2nd ...
Amman, Jordan boydandrose... at a viewpoint on the hill, looking across to the pillars of the Temple of Hercules opposite, two young men on my left say "welcome". "Thank you", I say.<br>"Is this your first visit to Jordan?"<br>"Yes, it is."<br>"You ARE welcome. Enjoy your visit."<br><br>Walking by a small cafe at the City Hall around dusk, all the tables are filled with men drinking coffee, puffing on hookahs (I think that is what ...
Amman, Jordan tobyhI've preached to many (unpersuasively, for the most part) on the snappy dialogue in Igby Goes Down:<br style="font-family: yui-tmp;">Igby: "How many Vassar professors and intellectual theologians beget nymphomaniacal, pseudo-Bohemian JAPs?"<br>Sooky: "I am not a JAP."<br><br>I get the same feeling about the world of David Copperfield, which I finally finished on the dash through Jordan to Israel (having been to Petra en route to Ethiopia with ...
Amman, Jordan david_chung... and they all speak English and whatnot so i feel like I am less likely to even hear the traditional greetings or whatever might accompany the Eid. That being said I asked one of my friends about this and he said they say "kol saneh wente salme" and "kol 3am wente bekheir" which is arabizi for "wishing you a year full of joy/happiness." <br><br>Other than the actual socio-religious traditional, people travel ...
Amman, Jordan justajaunt... man in Jordanie not done is, slaapt hij beneden.
Amman, Jordan soro... Qaeda in Iraq – that killed 60 people. But hotel lobbies still serve as movie-set backdrops for reunions of the soldiers, spooks and Iraqi exiles who pass through town, providing a constant reminder of the turmoil next door.<br> Equally, it is hard to forget the neighbouring Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Palestinians fled to Jordan in three main waves – after Israel was created in 1948, following the 1967 war and after the 1991 Gulf war, when they were ...
Amman, Jordan ashleyheacock... is all the signs for the Iraq Border. Apparently it isn't so far away, you can take a taxi for about 100 JD. Needless to say, Cory and I have opted to not visit Iraq. Final Recap on Egypt Food - 80%. Most of the food was actually decent, if you could figure out was it was. The shawermas were always a good bet, and anything that you could see being made, so that you could just point. It was almost always cheap. My only real big complaint was ...
Amman, Jordan prfoley... which was ok, but what was better was the view of the expanse of desert before us. We went over to this other desert rock formation where we were allowed to climb up into a canyon. I climbed into a Siq (like the one in Petra, a channel in the sand stone) and we walked forward until we hit a wall. The sandstone offered loads of holds though so I climbed up higher and higher, ending up quite above Kristen and the girls, but getting good views of the Canyon. I took ...
