We just rode the rails of the famous Ghan train for 26 hours. We enjoyed Gold Kangaroo Service - a private cabin with convertible twin bunks and ensuite bathroom and great food served on linen table cloths with real cutlery. We saw our first kangaroos and emus from the train. the only down side was it was air conditioned way too cold that necessitated sitting in jackets or blankets.
