You Gotta Experience the Crown Plaza Bloomington

Business travelers and family, you won't be dissapointed. I typically stay in Hotels 4 evenings per week in my business travel. I cover a five state area including Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota. I have not experienced a more friendly and "feel like your home" hotel than the Crown Plaza in Bloomington. The reception desk personnel, bar and lounge, restaurant, hotel management staff, waiters and chef are all unbelieveably personable and friendly. The first time you stay you will want to come back. The Hotel reception welcomes you with friendly, helpful, knowldegeable staff always asking how can they make your stay better. You have to see the reception desk which is unlike any other as there is a full wall computerized screen to keep you up todate while you check in. It is great for things like the weather with a radar screen providing weather patterns that can actually help you plan your flight arrangements. Additionally you can review highlights of the daily news which come on screen. Don't be surprised if you walk in and actually see a personalized greeting with your name on the board. The main lounge is off the recpetion area with a warm friendly staff where you can sit in front of the fireplace have a drink, read the paper with a large flat screen TV where you can watch all of your favorite sporting events or reality TV shows. You will also be served exceptional tasting food either in the main dining room and or bar/lounge. The rooms are exceptional with large comfortable beds with all of the ammenities you need in this high tech world. You will have availablitly of high speed and wireless connections throughout. They have a large clean swimming pool and spa with a exercise room. Above all the number one thing you will experience is the hotel staff. They have many long term employees and new employees all of whom will make it a point to get to know you and introduce you to other guests. I have been staying at this hotel almost weekly for about 7 years and would not stay at another hotel along the Bloomington 494 area. There is no reason to as you have it all at this crown Plaza. I see a lot of familiar faces on each stay which backs up my own experience and feelings about the Crown Plaza.

The hotel was under remodeling for about 7 to 8 months this past year at which time it closed. I had to find another hotel in the area and I could not wait to return. The main reason was the accommodating staff they employ. So, go see for your self and do what I do. Tell everyone you see about the great experience.

      Nice Hotel, Great Location

The rooms are well above average and the beds are the most comfortable I have slept on in a hotel. Front desk staff was very helpful. Close to the mall, food, and sports bars. I will always stay here when in Minneapolis.

Women travellers-check out the womens floor!

I thought it was great! I spent one night at this hotel and stayed on the women's floor. To gain access to the floor you must use your keycard and only women can stay on the floor, so it's a nice secure place for women travelling alone. Another perk is the refrigerator stocked with pop, water, milk, yogurt, cheese and fruit; and a shelf of crackers, rice krispie bars and other low-fat snacks for everyone to enjoy! This refrigerator is in a little bay in the hallway and if your room is across from it like mine was it can get a little noisy! The room was nicely done in warm, inviting colors, and the bed was very comfortable! In your room there is a packet of sleep aids such as lavender spray, ear plugs, an eye mask, and a relaxation CD. I'm looking forward to staying there again!

      Awesome Experience

I wanted to share an awesome experience I had with the Crowne Plaza in Bloomington on February 28, 2005.

I am the Director of HSBC Customer Care, Card Services in Las Vegas, NV. On February 28th, I was traveling with 48 people from Las Vegas to New York City. The purpose of this group traveling together was each had won a trip based on an incentive program. I am sure you can imagine the excitement level of this group on this day!

Our trip took a turn for disaster when we landed in Minneapolis for a quick layover before getting on our next leg to New York City. When we landed, we were informed that our next flight was cancelled due to air traffic issues surroundings the NYC area. The entire group had already been re-routed and split up with no guarantee to meet in NYC at the same time, including couples traveling together. Of course, this was not acceptable and I was able to work with Northwest Airlines to get us on a flight together departing the next morning. Northwest gave us guidelines for finding a hotels and shuttles so we could settle in for the night. I placed a call to the Crowne Plaza in Bloomington on Green Valley Drive and within minutes had reservations for 24 rooms and shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. To add to the saga, we needed wheel chair accommodations for one of our guests.

Shuttle service arrived within the 20 minutes quoted on the phone, accommodations were made for our wheel chair guest, and all checked into the hotel within an hour of leaving the airport. As the director for a customer service call center, urgency and the quality of service is most important. Each member of my group found the staff to be extremely helpful, cheerful and looking for any opportunity to enhance our unplanned visit. If this wasn't enough, the staff arranged for more than a ususal shuttle service to and from the Mall of America.

We had not eaten since earlier in the day. The Executive Chef greeted me and we discussed timimg for the group to gather for a meal. Once a time was established, the front desk staff sent a broadcast message to all the rooms with the logistics for dinner. We met in the bar area where the bartender ensured everyone was taken care of while we ordered food. The waiter waited on 48 people ensuring our meals needs were met. Both did so with smiles on their face and a skip in their step.

We excepecte to be sipping drinks and enjoying our first night in NYC Monday night while being guests at a cocktail party at the Hilton Times Square. We found ourselves in Minneapolis, MN at the Crowne Plaza having our own cocktail party with feedback from the group that Monday night was one of the best nights of the entire trip! This would not have been accomplished without the skill and expertise of the staff of the Crowne Plaza.

      Weekend get-away

My husband and I booked the Crown Plaza on their website and we received a great rate for a deluxe King room. We were going for our anniversary and were in need of an excape from the kids. The location was great for visiting the Mall of America and the action in downtown Minneapolis and still close to the airport but we did not have to deal with airport noise like some hotels near the Mall or airport. The shuttle to the airport and Mall of America was great and right on time coming and going. The facilities were contemporary art-deco. which was a nice change and the pool and business center was high standard. We loved our room. The decorative touch and little amenites were nice. The best part was the amazing beds!! They are everything they promote. We slept so comfortable and I was impressed with the whole "sleep advantage" One small complaint and hopefully a suggestion for them is we asked for the "quiet-zone" floor which we received. The floor is located on the 5th out of 6 floors. We were bothered with TV noise above and kids running on the upper hallway floor. They should switch the quiet floor to the 6th floor so the noise factor is taken care of. We did have one small problem in our room. The toilet ran every 15 minutes and we reported the problem the next morning and were assured it would be taken care of that day. Alas, when we got back to our room later that evening, the toilet still ran every 15 minutes and we dealt with it until we checked out the next morning and reported it again. They serve a great Sunday brunch and as a surprise to us, the hotel sent champaigne and strawberries to our room upon arrival at no charge with a individual signed note from the entire front desk and restaurant staff at no charge to say Happy Anniversary. Overall, very nice stay and would book another stay there again. If you are a single woman traveling or a group of women staying at a hotel, check out this hotel, they have a floor just for "ladies only" that provides extra security and extra amenities. Looked very interesting and may be of interest to women traveling alone.

      Fantastic stay

Myself and a group of friends stayed at the Crowne Plaza in November 2004 for 5 days.

We were upgraded to the ladies only floor which featured complimentary snacks and drinks from a communal 'fridge. Wonderful!

All the staff were very friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for them. Thank you Suzanne. The bedrooms were very clean and well equipped the beds were VERY comfortable.

A complimentary shuttle service is offered to the Mall of America and the Airport, but the drivers were more than happy to take us other places within the vicinity. Thank you Kevin and Travis.

We found the hotel excellent and very good value and will return there on our next trip.

      If IKEA furnished a hotel

We booked this place based on the reviews and the fact that it was the cheapest hotel available. People were very friendly, and the place was obviously renovated recently...and they look like they furnished everything, from the lobby to the bar to the rooms in IKEA stuff. I guess that's appropriate because of the Scandanavian heritage of the area.

The heater in our room only blew out cold air, and the guy who came to fix it was unsuccessful, but they did not hesitate to give us another room when we asked.

Finally, we were impressed by the pool, especially compared to other hotel pools. It was big and properly heated.

      Friendly and comfortable

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Crowne Plaza Airport West (Oct 10 - 12, 2004). The sleek, contemporary design was very hip and fun, and the staff was quite welcoming and helpful. The wireless high speed internet access was a feature I used a few times while there (couldn't have been easier to use!), and the friendly lobby bar was a perfect last stop of the evening before retiring to the comfortable beds with the best pillows ever.

If I ever return, I won't be requesting a poolside room. The noise starts too early for me in the pool area, which is adjacent to the workout room. That means people are coming and going from the area quite early (before 6AM!). The Sony Dream machine helped me get to my meeting the first morning on time (after spending a few minutes to figure out how to program it the night before). I made my way to the workout room by 9:00 on the second morning and the equipment was fairly new and in good condition.

I chose it because it was newly remodeled and looked clean and elegant, offered high speed internet access, was in a good location for us and offered competitive rates. The location was perfect for our stay. We had a meeting in North Mankato, and also wanted to be near the airport and the Mall of America, so it was easy access for both. Easy to find from the airport, and very close to restaurants and shopping. I definitely recommend the hotel.

      A Real Bargin for Shoppers!

This property is a keeper! I stayed 5 nights while on a business trip from a Friday to Wednesday towards the end of August, and I wished every business trip was a comfortable, inexpensive and relaxing as this stay.

This property was recently renovated; so recent you could still smell the freshness of the paint and carpet! The property had a complete facelift and now has a modern look and feel to it. From the reflection pool to the lighting and signage, everything about this property was well planned. One might expect to find such comfort and style in a downtown location. Clearly this property is a gem for Janus Hotels, the management arm of the property.

This Crowne Plaza held true to its upscale brand by providing a clean, comfortable and relaxing stay. The rooms are large, well appointed and have modern amenities such as: a comfortable bed, upscale bathroom and related amenities, Sony Dream Machines, free high speed internet access, 2 phone lines, desk, coffee maker, iron and did I mention the very comfortable beds!

According to Crowne Plaza advertising, they hired a sleep consultant, and you know what, this consultant really knows his topic because I had a great night of sleep every single night!

In fact, everything about this property seemed to center around a great night of sleep. From the comfortable beds to the free CD of relaxing music, to the sleep aid kit (includes sleep aromas, a bed mask, ear plugs and a night light), wall thermostat for the heating and air conditioning, sleep time tea bags and even a curtain clip, which keeps the curtains together so 99% of the light stays out (a brilliant little invention).

The room was very quiet and dark, and neither housekeeping nor the front desk disturbed my late day sleeping habits. Management really thought of everything to provide a better nights sleep.

As for the property, it has an indoor pool, dry sauna, whirlpool, room service until 11pm, and a modest exercise and game room. The lobby area is an extension of the bar and restaurant, and although small it was inviting and had a nice flow to it. And to provide a nice touch at night, candles were placed in the lobby area which provided a soft, relaxing feel upon arrival. The staffs, especially housekeeping and the front desk, were friendly and helpful.

As for the location, the Sheraton, Hilton Gardens and Clarion are across the highway, and the property is close to to several major corporate HQ. Jolsten, the class ring company, is across the street while Gander Mountain is 1 mile and Best Buy is about 3 miles away.

While a rental car is necessary (parking is free) to get around, the highway ramps are easy to find and there are several chain restaurants within a mile drive. You can stay without a car as the hotel does offer a free shuttle to and from the airport and Mall of America.

I booked my stay directly with the hotel and was able to negotiate a long term stay rate of $85 per night. This was a bargain as the hotel would be reasonably priced at $125 a night. Getting a good night sleep is worth every penny when you spend a lot of nights on the road.

All in all, book your room directly with the hotel and knock yourself out shopping because you are going to find a good bargain and a great night of sleep.

Whether you are planning a business trip, weekend of shopping, family reunion or just passing by, this should be your first property of choice. Everybody needs a good nights rest while on the road, and the Crowne Plaza Airport West is the place to find it.
