Another early start today! Packing the car up for the last time which was sad! There is quite a routine going to it now. Ever morning the lads are ready they pack most of the car, shout at me, I'm finally ready, they pack my stuff, I give them the address of where we are going and off we go!! It's a nice little routine and its come to an end really …
Day 4 - 28th Feb
Upon landing in Queenstown, we are escorted to the edge of Lake Wakatipu, where we jump aboard a Jetboat, which gave a very interesting ride up one of the creeks, and around Lake Wakatipu, to arrive at Queenstown wharf opposite our Hotel.
That Afternoon, we rod up the Skyline Gondala to the Summit of Bob's Peak for a …
So apparently Queenstown isn't all about jumping off stuff or out of things. No, really, it's possible to visit to NZ's adventure capital and leave with your adrenalin levels at a level your heart doctor would approve of and your internal organs where you left them.
My best mate in Auckland, Rohan (affectionatly known as Rosie), was going to …
We slept in as the drive to Queenstown from Te Anau is only a few hours and sealed all the way, we had nothing planned other than the drive.
The road goes via Mossburn, Five Rivers and Athol, eventually reaching Lake Wakatipu at Kingston, the road from Kingston to Queenstown hugs the side of the Remarkable Mount Range, mountains one side and …
... hostel we stopped in at a bar called Searle Lane, where they run a happy hour offer of 10 chicken wings for $2. Between 5 of us we threw in some money and ended up buying 80 wings! We then went back to the hostel in time for free dinner which was a vegetable curry with rice. Cheap dinner night for us all! We spent the evening at a few bars close to the hostel and met quite a few others who are travelling and living ...

Great hotel in great location
Hotel has been recently refurbished. The bar and restaurant area are very trendy and contemporary. The rooms are a good size with a decent balcony. I would highly recomend paying extra for a lake view room and try and get the top floor. The views across the Lake are stunning.
The location is fantastic - less than 5 minutes walk to all the bars and restaurants (less than 1 minute to the nearest bars and restaurants!!)
Service was excellent and staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good.
I haven't got anything negative to say about this hotel!!!!
It seems that the hotel has been recently renovated. The ceiling in our balcony was not painted yet. The room is a good size. It has a plasma tv. It's a bit treaky to turn on and off the tv. The location is good. A casino right across the street and a bar called minus 5 (everything is made of ice). A steam boat tour is also within 5 minute walking distance from the hotel. Park your car and just walk everywhere in Queenstown city center. Walk about 20 minutes, you can take a gondola and have breakfast at the top. There's a buffett restaurant (the gondola ride is free if you dine in the restaurant). Take the luge right after you take the gondola (the same place). I must warn you that Queenstown has gotten quite expensive now. My last trip was about 8 years ago. Construction is everywhere, mostly for condo with views overlooking the lake.
what an amazing hotel!
very stylish reception area and rooms.
excellent staff attitude.
sumptuous breakfast catering for so many tastes and ethnic needs.
perfect location for all of Queenstown.
must go back!
Spent 3 nights here (December 06) and it was just perfect. We had a room which overlooked the lake. The hotel has been refurbished and it's spotless. The staff were very good and they even phoned several car hire companys for us to see which one was the cheapest.
The location is superb just a couple of minutes walk and you are right in the heart of everything.
Somehow we ended up here a day early and were worried about getting a terrible rate for the night. They gave us the same rate as we were paying for the next two nights and I was very happy about this. The Breakfast Buffet which was not included in the rate was most excellent. There were a variety of choices and surely there was something for everyone. Our room had two double beds and we had a mountain view. Ok, the view wasn't the greatest, but it was good enough. We were there to sleep, not to look out the window. Everything in the room was clean and tidy. Guest laundry available: efficient and cheap! Valet parking was excellent. We would call down to reception about 10 minutes before we needed the car and it would be waiting for us right outside the front door. The location of the hotel is perfect for Queenstown.
Room location decides; Disappointed with the admin.
My first stay at this hotel was excellent. The rooms were newly refurbished. High quality toiletries were supplied. The bedding was very comfortable. Quiet. Nice location opposite the Lake.
But beware of your room choice. There are two guest laundries and if your room is next to the laundry, your stay might not be that pleasant. Also avoid rooms near the carpark should you wish a quiet stay.
I experienced an administrative issue with the hotel which caused me to pay more than the normal room charge. I had contacted the hotel regarding this but it was not resolved. As a matter of fact, I did not receive a response that was promised by the hotel staff. Very disappointing!
Loved it - stayed there twice
Parkroyal has the best location - walking distance to everything. The rooms are fine for a four-star hotel. The dining room, where we had breakfast, overlooks the harbor and the mountains and made it a good place to start the day. My husband and I were so happy there and liked Queenstown so much that we left Te Anau early to stay there another night.
In a nutshell, this hotel is in a handy spot to town, but not much else. It is noisy on the lower floors due to the tour buses pulling up and parking, so expect the sound of buses from around 6am - 10pm, and when the balcony doors are open, the fumes from the bus exhausts can filter in. It is also in need of a huge refurbishment as it is very dated. For your $'s you can stay in a much nicer establishment!.
Great location, could use an update
Although the hotel was in an excellent location, we were disappointed with the condition of the rooms and the common areas of the hotel.
While the bathrooms were new, the room, hallways and lobby could definitely use an update/refurbishment. The location and the view (you have to specifically request a lake view room) were amazing though. The hotel also had laundry facilities which, if you're traveling for awhile, is very helpful (NZ$2 per load of washing, NZ$1 per load of drying). Overall, not great value for money, but one of the best options if you don't mind an older hotel with a good location and a nice view.
Excellent location, enjoyed out stay
We stayed in the hotel during our honeymoon in February, and we enjoyed very much our stay. We received a bottle of champagne in our room, courtesy of the management!
The room was very comfortable, spacious enough, with a balcony partially overlooking the lake and mountains. The hotel is located lakefront, and right next to all the activities available in Queenstown.
We enjoyed our stay very much, and I would certainly recommend the hotel.
