Queenstown NZ's Tourist central

We slept in as the drive to Queenstown from Te Anau is only a few hours and sealed all the way, we had nothing planned other than the drive.
The road goes via Mossburn, Five Rivers and Athol, eventually reaching Lake Wakatipu at Kingston, the road from Kingston to Queenstown hugs the side of the Remarkable Mount Range, mountains one side and step drops to the lake the otherside, the roas is know as "The Devils Staircase", there are not a lot of places to pass buy that is not important as y...

Great hotel in great location

from msganc
Hotel has been recently refurbished. The bar and restaurant area are very trendy and contemporary. The rooms are a good size with a decent balcony. I would highly recomend paying extra for a lake view room and try and get the top floor. The views across the Lake are stunning.

The location is fantastic - less than 5 minutes walk to all the bars and restaurants (less than 1 minute to the nearest bars and restaurants!!)

Service was excellent and staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good.

I haven't got anything negative to say about this hotel!!!!

Modern hotel in Queenstown

from World Passport
It seems that the hotel has been recently renovated. The ceiling in our balcony was not painted yet. The room is a good size. It has a plasma tv. It's a bit treaky to turn on and off the tv. The location is good. A casino right across the street and a bar called minus 5 (everything is made of ice). A steam boat tour is also within 5 minute walking distance from the hotel. Park your car and just walk everywhere in Queenstown city center. Walk about 20 minutes, you can take a gondola and have breakfast at the top. There's a buffett restaurant (the gondola ride is free if you dine in the restaurant). Take the luge right after you take the gondola (the same place). I must warn you that Queenstown has gotten quite expensive now. My last trip was about 8 years ago. Construction is everywhere, mostly for condo with views overlooking the lake.

There's a guest laundry facility on the second floor. A lot of hotels in NZ has this. So, you can pack light if you travel to NZ. High speed internet from the room about NZ$34 per day. Valet parking only and it's free. Nothing special about buffett breakfast.

Overall, it's a very nice hotel.

Top Notch

from John_sg0107
Spent 3 nights here (December 06) and it was just perfect. We had a room which overlooked the lake. The hotel has been refurbished and it's spotless. The staff were very good and they even phoned several car hire companys for us to see which one was the cheapest.

The location is superb just a couple of minutes walk and you are right in the heart of everything.

Superb Accommodation

from Trayflow
Somehow we ended up here a day early and were worried about getting a terrible rate for the night. They gave us the same rate as we were paying for the next two nights and I was very happy about this. The Breakfast Buffet which was not included in the rate was most excellent. There were a variety of choices and surely there was something for everyone. Our room had two double beds and we had a mountain view. Ok, the view wasn't the greatest, but it was good enough. We were there to sleep, not to look out the window. Everything in the room was clean and tidy. Guest laundry available: efficient and cheap! Valet parking was excellent. We would call down to reception about 10 minutes before we needed the car and it would be waiting for us right outside the front door. The location of the hotel is perfect for Queenstown.

Room location decides; Disappointed with the admin.

from Gorgota
My first stay at this hotel was excellent. The rooms were newly refurbished. High quality toiletries were supplied. The bedding was very comfortable. Quiet. Nice location opposite the Lake.

But beware of your room choice. There are two guest laundries and if your room is next to the laundry, your stay might not be that pleasant. Also avoid rooms near the carpark should you wish a quiet stay.

I experienced an administrative issue with the hotel which caused me to pay more than the normal room charge. I had contacted the hotel regarding this but it was not resolved. As a matter of fact, I did not receive a response that was promised by the hotel staff. Very disappointing!

Loved it - stayed there twice

from Harriette7
Parkroyal has the best location - walking distance to everything. The rooms are fine for a four-star hotel. The dining room, where we had breakfast, overlooks the harbor and the mountains and made it a good place to start the day. My husband and I were so happy there and liked Queenstown so much that we left Te Anau early to stay there another night.

Very dated

from A TripAdvisor Member
In a nutshell, this hotel is in a handy spot to town, but not much else. It is noisy on the lower floors due to the tour buses pulling up and parking, so expect the sound of buses from around 6am - 10pm, and when the balcony doors are open, the fumes from the bus exhausts can filter in. It is also in need of a huge refurbishment as it is very dated. For your $'s you can stay in a much nicer establishment!.

Great location, could use an update

from A TripAdvisor Member
Although the hotel was in an excellent location, we were disappointed with the condition of the rooms and the common areas of the hotel.

While the bathrooms were new, the room, hallways and lobby could definitely use an update/refurbishment. The location and the view (you have to specifically request a lake view room) were amazing though. The hotel also had laundry facilities which, if you're traveling for awhile, is very helpful (NZ$2 per load of washing, NZ$1 per load of drying). Overall, not great value for money, but one of the best options if you don't mind an older hotel with a good location and a nice view.

Excellent location, enjoyed out stay

from ebrener
We stayed in the hotel during our honeymoon in February, and we enjoyed very much our stay. We received a bottle of champagne in our room, courtesy of the management!

The room was very comfortable, spacious enough, with a balcony partially overlooking the lake and mountains. The hotel is located lakefront, and right next to all the activities available in Queenstown.

We enjoyed our stay very much, and I would certainly recommend the hotel.
