Great fun. We went on a week during a time of the year that wasn't too busy which meant that we hardly ever had to line up for a slide. The only downer was that three of the main slides were out of action but we still had to pay the rich entry fee.

    Yas Island Water park

The first day we went to Yas water park in Abu Dhabi, with 43 exhilarating water rides to choose from this was not to be missed! The sun was blazing at 31 degrees so we slapped on some factor 30 and headed for the super high water flumes. Not being great with heights I was sweating as we climbed the mountains over steps to hit the extreme rides first. We jumped on a 5 man rubber dingy ride first which looked pretty tame from the beginning... how wrong could I be, this ride was insane! It was like a roller coaster on water and we were banking up the sides higher than cool runnings on a bobsleigh! It finally opened out into one of those giant space bowls and by this time we had really picked up some speed. Our dingy launched up the side to about 20ft in the air and then flew down faster than the guy jumping out of space. It was like one of them pirate ship rides from the theme park, such a laugh with 4 I your mates on it too.

The other pretty crazy ride was called Loop, it's another proper high one and at the start you climb into what looks like a time travel capsule. You're standing up right as they close the lid, press a button which counts you down, 3..2..1.. and then the floor drops beneath you. Before I get on the lifeguard says to me "this is your first time right? You won't forget this!" Nice one, just what you want haha.

He wasn't lying... When that countdown finishes you free fall into darkness at lightening speed like nothing I'd ever experienced before and then to add to it you soar into a loop the loop. If you have a second to think while you're shooting down the tube like a missile firing from a rocket launcher and wonder why the ride was called Loop, you know now!

... 2nd row, Adrian in the 3rd and Steve in the back. Sure enough on the last dip down Angela and Emanuele got saturated and the other two not too far behind. They went on a few simulator rides and then had lunch at Rosticceria Moderna. Burgers, sharam, lamb pizza and olive pita were consumed. The restaurant itself was all borded up with a small entrance at the front. This is to cancel out the fact that food can't be eaten in a public place during Ramadan, so this was the best way to ...

... a mission to do on our way. Margaret asked us for some special tea she liked, only one shop in London where you can get it and guess what? it wasn't on our route. After a train and the subway and a bit of a walk with pull bags and our backpacks all very full. We got there at five to ten and they open at ten, only to find that they will post to Australia. Never mind she is ...

... the kids guessed we were off to the water park – they were very excited.

We were dropped off at a bus stop but, after asking if it was the correct stop, the driver of the bus just grunted and nodded. We got off the bus but the entrance to the water park wasn't signposted – we didn’t know we had to walk through a small clearing in the bushes to get there.

    We ended up ...

Hi everyone. We arrived here just before midnight and were all settled in the hotel by 1am after a speedy lane changing rally ride by our Philippino driver Shirley who offered to drive us to Dubai in a couple of days. We'll think about it! A rather frustrating day today including messing about trying to book a tour for tomorrow, waiting by hot busy roadsides for buses that never turned up ( maybe if they charged more than 30 cents a ride they could do better) ...
