We met our friend Jason at 9 AM and headed for the city of Suzhou also known as the Venice of the East. It is a city of canals and small boats. We visited the Humble Administrator's Gardens, which you can probably guess were in no way, shape, or form humble. Suzhou is known for its silk making and we saw some ...

Rain this morning for the first time during our trip! We drove to the Pearl School in heavy traffic, but managed to get to the school on time today. Ms Fraser and I were presented with some beautiful traditional watercolours, and we then presented the CPS rainbow serpent painting and book ...

... see see how quickly they fit in socially with their class, and also incredible to hear them begin to speak Mandarin! They joined in the mass exercise in formation and enjoyed a boxed Chinese school lunch. The school day ended all too soon and we arranged for the bus driver to drop us off at the famous historic Shantung Street. The traditional shops lined the canal and there were many tempting souvenirs, cute animals and ...

... the great range of dishes. For some reason four gardens had been slotted into our itinerary and Billy decided this was too much and thought we might prefer a cruise along the Grand Canal. Wanting to rest our legs for a bit, we readily agreed! This proved to be an interesting trip - part of it was like travelling along the canals in Venice, being very narrow and having a number of boats travelling along it. People living their lives in full view of anyone travelling past - ...
