My room in the hostel welcomed me with a disgusting smell of sweaty feet and in general, the place seemed rather like a hippie festival than anything else. While checking in I had already been informed that pot was legal in the state of Washington. Maybe that explained the crowd right in front of the hostel?

... tank. Some solar water heating units use a similar set-up however with tubes fulled of anti-freeze that are then attached to a heat transmission loophole, where water in a storage tank is warmed. Whatever system you utilize, thermal water heating is surprisingly affective.
