It ended up taking us 12 hours to make the "short" 8 hour drive. So much for our plans to get home early!
So this is the final detailed budget tally. Turned out to be a pretty low-cost vacation - especially since we did many "bucket list" activities that are typically super expensive.

The last bit of the drive took us through the Tail of the Dragon, the most famous touring road in North America. It sure was a twisty drive! Unfortunately, Matt and Esen both got a little nauseous after a while so it eventually became a difficult drive. Took us over an hour to get through the Tail.

... that we were booked on a flight to Johannesburg through Dubai and the flight was scheduled to leave in 45 minutes in another terminal. Luggage was slated to follow us. A quick walk, a connecting train ride and we arrived at the gate, got our tickets and quickly sent an email to our guide contact that we would be arriving a day late.
... States. The schedule was packed with tours, adventures, discoveries and lots of delicious food. The company was fantastic - 10 of us from 2013 Peru/Ecuador trip, along with 6 friends that knew someone of the original ten. Got that?

... this summer, and my former foreign exchange student, Théo (tay-oh, not thee-oh). A little later on, my cousin from Germany might also come visit me in Grenoble, so I'm looking forward to meeting up with some of my peeps while in Europe!
