I Think My Pants Are Hitting on Me

... on the BBC: “Welsh-born Kiwi listens to iPod while being violated in Argentine prison. Also, why dogs lick each other – story at 11.”

This, mind you, all happened after we came within minutes, maybe seconds, of actually missing the bus. Having forgotten that Argentina is an hour ahead of Bolivia we were meandering around town as casual and non-committal as Owen Wilson when we suddenly saw one of the bus guys running toward us down the street (to ...

Outdoor fun in Sunny Salta!

... The journey took 2 hours but it passed pretty quickly as the scenery was fantastic. We saw the sunrise over the mountains which was amazing and the second half of the journey was around Lake Embaise Cabra Corral which was really beautiful. We spent the morning white water rafting with an Argentinian family. They had three children which made it more difficult for us as we had to paddle harder but they were full ...

Other folks stole my thunder (during a thunder storm ironically) by having a massive row over not helping out enough, libby and i giggled over the price other people had paid for the trip (ie `i didnt pay 3 grand to be treated like a child!`) and nodded off.

am going off now but tomorrow´s installment involves me visiting jesus for the first of 2 visits.

Cheers

Rois

... incredibly popular concepts. There is a phenomenen known as the Hijos de Carnival that are the children born basically nine months after the crazy celebrations of Carnival. Despite an obvious need for a massive public health initiative, I observed that most of these young children seemed to have parents around and most of the teenage mothers seemed to have male partners rearing the children as well. There was at least the appearance of ...

Salta - Argentina

... spent in the little pueblo of Cafayate, which even though it is so high, has its own microclimate making it perfect for wine growing. They produce a variety here (a white called Torrontes) that is only grown here and nowhere else in the world. Bloody nice too! The next day was spent winding through jagged, narrow head rock formations and more stunning scenery as we climbed out of the river valley towards Cachi, one of the loveliest ...

Bbq´s, wine, horses and Tango dancing - what a mix

... she just didn´t like me!! Despite this strange horsey behaviour we had a great time and felt like real Argentinian Gauchos. Buenos Aires was our next stop. Here it was colder and not as sunny but has been a great city to explore. We have wandered around markets in the Artisan area of San Telmo where you stop every so often to watch Tango dancers in the streets, been to the cinema to see Batman (in English, Tom was very excited!) and had more BBQ ...

El Tren a Las Nubes...NOT!

Farther north (or is that further north?) in Argentina means fewer tourists and much lower prices. For all intents and purposes, Salta has everything that Mendoza has but is significantly cheaper. I'm paying 16 pesos per night for my room where I had averaged about 30 pesos per night down south. All the food, wine and fun is here at cheaper prices. Yay!

Still, Salta is not quite Mendoza. Most streets and sidewalks ...
