If you go to Siena, don’t enter through the fort. Apparently forts are not only designed to keep people out, but also in, so there weren’t any doors to let us get into the town. We backtracked out, and finally made our way in. We wandered the streets, and ended up in the Piazza do Campo, where they hold the Palio twice a year. I recommend you read up on the event, but needless to say, I’d love to be ...

Easter Weekend in Spoleto (April 3-5)

On this Easter weekend, the greatest 'x factor' was perhaps knowing what was going to be open when, and knowing we had groceries to get us through. We did not know how much of 'lock down' Easter would have on a smaller town. In the end, Spoletto seems to be a popular tourist destination for Italian tourist on Easter weekend. ... After finding our Bed and Breakfast at the top of the hill, we began walking down the hill enjoying the sites as we ambled by. From the Piazza Matteotti we walked to the Roman Amphitheater, the stones of which have long been absorbed into the medieval architecture. The view from town to the valley below is called "The Green Heart of Italy" and it's beauty is simply beyond description! We visited ...

    A morning's walk

... up by some homework time, a walk up to a local park to run, climb and play frisbee. We walked around the old city wall in search of the local video store. On the way we ran into a line of about 50 Pine processionary catepillars (we looked them up when we got home). They were walking head-to-toe in a solid line. Graham tried to persuade them to move back away from the roadway with his foot. As the leader veered right so to did the one behind him, then the other, then the other, and ...
