I had read somewhere that it was open on Sundays, but when we got there a man told us it was only open during the week. He asked us if we weren't from around there (obviously not: look at our gringo faces, sir), and we said no. He let us in and opened up the whole museum for us, which was extremely generous. We decided to have a nice dinner at a highly praised restaurant after missing Christmas dinner and having a pretty average New Years dinner. The good thing about treating yourself to some fine dining in Peru is that it still only cost $30 for the two of us. It was well worth it and delicious.

... me well for the Inca Trail, which is at even higher altitude! A couple of hours after leaving the base, we reached the top, and it was then that I could understand why we left so early - the sun was already out, and it was HOT! Better to do the climb when it was cooler.
