... Sanctuary, a 60 miles round trip from Colorado Springs (passing through the outskirts of Denver) before checking in to our hotel (in Colorado Springs). Unfortunately, we travelled on the Monday...yes, you guessed it, the centre is closed on a Monday. Best laid plans and all that. The following day was shaping up a lot better, we decided to go to the downtown area and headed to a place called 'Poor Richard's' (a bit of an institution in town) - which has a toy ...

Arrived today after 6.30 on the road with only 45 mins break! Booked on the cog railway and a horse ride, hoping to have a drink in town in the evening ! Just updated and summarised on the Dodge City experience - so please take a look. More on Colorado Springs tomorrow! Ok so a very late update for this part of the trip due to 2 very long days in the car. Colorado Springs - I love this place just for the atmosphere alone - a great place to visit if ...

I left the parking lot and after not even a kilometer some people were standing on the road watching at 'something'...I stopped as well and was surprised to see 2 black bears, oh my god!!! A mother and her baby...and I was only 15-20m away from them, AMAZING!!! After such a big ride I deserved a nice meal so I decided to use ...

... half the journey. We slowly travelled up the mountain, listening to the conductor as she told us all about the history of the railway, pointing out the different areas of the mountain and having a bit of laugh while she was at it. FINALLY we broke through all the cloud and could see for miles! It was amazing just how high up we were, and also the sheer drop that was off to one side of the train! Since we could now see ...

Does going up halfway twice make it a summit??

... and it changes by the minute. The mountains all had snow on them so it wasn’t just the 14ers. I suppose that is why the road was closed so far before the actual summit. The weather said the snow can get as low as 8000 feet tomorrow! Most places start out there! So we get to mile 13 and get out to take some pictures and a kind ranger was there with his snowplow. We spoke to him a bit and he told us a lot of interesting things ...
