... Sanctuary, a 60 miles round trip from Colorado Springs (passing through the outskirts of Denver) before checking in to our hotel (in Colorado Springs). Unfortunately, we travelled on the Monday...yes, you guessed it, the centre is closed on a Monday. Best laid plans and all that. The following day was shaping up a lot better, we decided to go to the downtown area and headed to a place called 'Poor Richard's' (a bit of an institution in town) - which has a toy ...
Arrived today after 6.30 on the road with only 45 mins break! Booked on the cog railway and a horse ride, hoping to have a drink in town in the evening ! FINALLY we broke through all the cloud and could see for miles! It was amazing just how high up we were, and also the sheer drop that was off to one side of the train! Since we could now see ...
... and it changes by the minute. The mountains all had snow on them so it wasn’t just the 14ers. I suppose that is why the road was closed so far before the actual summit. The weather said the snow can get as low as 8000 feet tomorrow! Most places start out there! So we get to mile 13 and get out to take some pictures and a kind ranger was there with his snowplow. We spoke to him a bit and he told us a lot of interesting things ...
