... Chobe National Park is the second largest national park in Botswana, containing 12,000 sq. km. (4,633 sq. mi.).

The whole area is home to a shifting migratory population of elephants. Chobe has the highest concentration of elephants in the world, and the park has between 25-40,000 of them. We are fortunate to see them while on our cruise as well as hippos, lots of crocodiles, red lechwes, buffaloes, storks ...
Chobe National Park, North West, Botswana boydandrose... every last dish to make their meal and left it for the others to clean up. The truck clean and security group was responsible for sweeping out the dirty truck after the days drive, emptying the water out of the disgusting cooler (or eskie as every other country calls it), and wearing a fancy key chain with keys to the truck and safe around their neck.

We suffered a few hours on the truck before arriving at the Zambia/Botswana border crossing. We could see Botswana from across ...
Kasane, Botswana kickthroughToro Lodge Kasane Botswana 30 & 31st August 2009

From Livingstone we had to drive to the ferry/pontoon at Kazangula. Just as we were leaving the outskirts of Livingstone we reached the police checkpoint and had to pay to leave, just Kw20,000. Then the policeman asked where we were going and as we said Botswana he tried to sell us some Pula for US dollars. It didn't take us too long to reach the ferry point. We weren’t sure ...
Kasane Botswana, North West, Botswana neilandchris... one exception, which I will mention that in a minute!).

After driving to the shower we left to drive in the Kasane direction along the river. We saw loads of animals – huge herds of elephants and buffalo, two big herds of sable, hundreds of impala as well as warthog, zebra and hippos.

There were a lot of flies about today, they kept buzzing around and I kept swishing then away. I felt one near my ear and thought I has brushed it away, but discovered it ...
Ihaha, Caprivi, Namibia emmaw... game and bird life. The 2 hour evening boat cruise leaving at 4 pm again did not provide us with a good view of the hippos - too far away and bad lighting so ... no hippo photo shot with the mouth wide open. I did see one hippo on a far bank yawning though. Saw a couple of large herds of elephants so all was not lost. These are animals living in their natural habit so this is what we are to expect. They are not preforming animals ....

Kasane, Botswana mebiner... a bad idea for this time of year; the mist was the thickest of the day and the 50F temperature created some fog. The views were about as bad as possible but I went to Danger Point anyways with my eternal optimism. Rain poncho on, camera in a Ziploc bag, I stood there in the most peculiar downpour in my life, one with not a cloud in the sky! My hands were soon freezing, a hole in the back of my poncho allowed water in to soak the back of my ...
Kasane, Botswana mebiner... but the best thing was getting to listen to them communicate to one another. They toot their trunks but also communicate through stomach gurgles and touch. It was fascinating!

We saw the sunset as we cruised along the river and Rocko and I had some wine while we watched it go down. I think that this has been the only day that I can remember where I watched the sun rise and set and have pictures of both.

Hope everyone back home is well!

Brett and Robin
Kasane, North West, Botswana rockobatty... which is a super posh lodge with a camping ground attached so we get to use all the nice facilities without paying (upgrades to a room cost over $100!). It also has a laundry service, which Hilary and I are going to take advantage of - properly clean clothes!!! It'll be a luxury!!

After a quick shower, we have dinner which is another braii with t-bone steaks, mmmm and then have an early night.
Kasane, Botswana carolinefinnisMorning pretty much consisted of driving. Boring. In a foul mood, not sure why. Had enough. Stopped off for firewood collection which led to Martin getting a massive splinter and blood blister. Two hardcore cyclist rode passed us fully kitted out. Looks like they've been going for a while no doubt having covered thousands of km's so we gave em a cheer and wave as we drove by. Arrived in ...
