... rafting before - people have died rafting and kayaking down the zambezi - we had to get out and walk around the grade 6 rapid which has killed a professional kayaker. The bridge you bungee from connects Zambia to Zimbabwe so you technically enter Zimbabwe when you bungee but you dont have to get a visa. Touts on the bridge were selling Zimbabwean Trillion Dollar banknotes ...
Livingstone, Zambia mikedz... etc.’, everything a backpacker wants- but it’s not yet open. Curses! The next ones will have it easier.

I finally tell my cab driver Constantine something or other- a name I suspect he made up to avoid future repercussions- that he should put me up for the night. That spurs his little memory and he realizes there’s a cheap decent place right close to him- out in the countryside. Sounds good to me. On the way we pass ...
Lusaka, Zambia hardiek... We had a full buffet breakfast this morning and Peter cut a bite of his sausage and showed me this one bite would be all you get at the House of Martha. Obviously they are well aware of the disparity too.
But yet, the children are very happy. I think they have come from such horrid situations that they are aware that they are being fed, and a bed to sleep on, even if it is with someone else.

We have enjoyed our time here. Unfortunately I got the ...

Bought the cooker but no cool ...
Lusaka, Zambia malcolmcollisMeant to send this when in the internet cafe in Kafue but my battery went flat on me Travelpod update 29th April to 10th May Wednesday 29th April; went into the nearby National Park called Mosi-Oa-Tunya which is the local name for the Falls meaning "The smoke that thunders" - very apt. This is quite a small park by comparison running some 8km up stream on the Zambezi and was very pleasant & quite. We trundled along on tick-over in second low and spotted plenty of birds ...
Kafue, Zambia malcolmcollisOne final day of shopping then I'll leave the group and zip ahead to Livingstone. The shopping went well, to begin with. I knew I had a big day ahead of me, but some poor decisions last night meant that I didn't get too much sleep. I was dropped off at the store alone with a short time frame. As I raced around the store I ran into Taryn, one of the riders. She took pity on my situation and took it upon ...
Lusaka, Zambia jmckerricher... an open meeeeting hut where he welcomed us to his village. The main part of the village lies just behind a hill and has around 500 members. Central to the village is the chuch run by an American charity, they also help to fund the local primary school. Joseph confidently tells us all about life in his village, the hardships, traditions and the plans for the future. He recalls how as a boy his mum would cook Hippo meat hunted by the men, in a clay pot ...
Lusaka, Zambia therhodesies... IN the office, but its in the office compound, prompting a lot of jokes from the staff here about my lengthy commute. It is nice in that there is good security and our office is walking distance to a coffee shop, pizza place, grocery store, etc. but its kind of a bummer that it is, you know, at the office. So the work/life balance is only slightly skewed! I promise a more interesting update next week ... :)
Lusaka, Zambia jennweiss... to rob us in broad daylight of course made me all the more sceptical, but unlike my disgruntled friend curiosity got the better of me. After some hard bargaining, we managed to reduce the fee to ZKw 30,000 for the whole group, which worked out at a much happier sum of ZKw4000 each. This I was willing to pay. Dubious as this woman’s approach to us was, I was still rather excited about this little venture.

She greeted us at her door and told us, via a translator, to remove our ...
Lusaka, Zambia dandowler... It was approx 9 hrs each leg, with 5 hours in London Heathrow airport between planes. Now I watched the conveyor belt for my luggage and it took longer and longer as everyone else on the team received their bags. As the seconds ticked on it felt more like hours and I felt less and less hopeful that it was going to come cruising out. The giant hockey bag of supplies I brought to leave in Zambia arrived, but no personal luggage. No pj's, no month ...
