    Day Kyoto

After a nice leisurely breakfast at our now favourite breakfast deli, we took the JR train for Osaka to Kyoto. It is an hour long ride on the usual train with quite a few stops along the way. Thankfully, it was a weekday late morning so I think we managed to avoid most of the crowd. Upon reaching Kyoto, we made our way to our hotel. The local Ryokan type hotel. It is right beside the subway stop so pretty ...

The gold and the red - our last day in Kyoto

There are so many sites to see in Kyoto. It's not possible to see them all and you always wonder what you missed out on. I know there are a couple of sites that I regret not seeing but I am very glad we saw the two sites we spent time at today. The girls have been very good running back and forward to the supermarket for us to pick up supplies. Today they brought us a real treat to have with our cereal. Since then the deer have been regarded as heavenly animals, protecting the city and the country. There were deer everywhere, walking the streets among the cars and walking around the temples. They were quite tame as well and allowed for one to pet them. So today I have petted "Bambi". ...

We began the day with yet another food fest in our ryokan, then headed out to Kyoto Station to find our bike tour. We found the post office, where we were supposed to meet up, quickly enough, as well as 2 Canadians and 2 Indonesians waiting for the same tour. Unfortunately, it took our guide and the 2 New Zealanders nearly 20 minutes to realize we were waiting in a different location (they were actually given different instructions!) After that, though, we quickly ...

    Hiroshima

We have arrived in Hiroshima, traversed the tram system (with a very lovely lady giving up a seat so we didn't have to struggle with our bags) and have settled into our next ryokan. While the last one was in an old part of town, in an old building with very new yet traditional interior, this place is in a new building. It is several stories high with a bit of a balcony, a window opening into the next building (which is all of half a foot away... If that) and with a very ...
