Versailles Day Trip

The Chateau de Versailles is one of the prestigious world's heritage sites and represent the finest and most accomplished achievement of 17th century French art. King Louis XIII's former hunting lodge was transformed and enlarged by his son Louis XIV, who installed his court and government ...

A Rocky Start in Paris

... by some hip-hop wannabe chick who caught me inadvertently looking at her while she screamed into her phone at someone I felt deeply sorry for) I got off and boarded my second train which would deposit me at exit Laumiere where I could finally begin my walk. I accomplished all this and actually walked, or rather tiredly stumbled, into St. Christopher's a little past noon. Nearly three hours after touching down qt Charles de Gaulle I was at my hostel, my home for the next five days, a ...

Bike tour and Free Museum Day!!

... bike, we toured past the glass pyramids in the Louvre courtyard, across Pont Neuf, past Notre Dame, and through Centre Pompidou. The whole city was open to us and we would not let a little rain get in our way! I was so tempted to consider renting a bike, but I don't really understand the road rules at all and a goal of mine on this trip is to return home alive, so I'm going to count that one out. After the bike tour, a ...

Voyage a Paris!

... space we were greeted by the observation deck. I don't need to use any fancy language to dictate: we were reeeeally high up. The panorama was beautiful, though. In every direction you could see the avenues and streets of Paris lit up and then sparkling along the River Seine. On Sunday the group I was with planned on going to Versailles. I wanted to take a little break from the masses of tourists and their souveneire-facade of Paris, so I decided to have the day to ...

... something for dinner and then our hotel. By this time we had been on our feet over 12 hours! The next morning we again packed up and left our luggage at the hotel and caught the Metro on our way to the " Catacombs". We were a little horrified when we read that there were over 1.7km of paths, 130 steps going down and something like a further 120 coming back up! But we went in any way. Firstly you went down the spiral staircase for the 130 steps and then ...

Paris: Day 7

... The selection of paintings included were of women with animals and were painted in pastels and grays. Her work reminds me of a present-day artist whom I'm enamored with, Carole Orr. I bought this painting in 2000 from her, and it hangs above our fireplace in our living room (I told you I spent all my money on art when I was in college). Thankfully, her prices were lower then. I have two viewfinders at home of art from Musee d'Orsay and the ...

It's Spring in Paris!!

... the evening toasting to newly made acquaintances, even if they would only last one week before we left. And I suppose as what could be a testament to this quickly made friendship I was "bissoued" by Clement as we left the bar - the first time that I've been "bissoued" by a Frenchman. This was the end of what really was a great weekend. We had started it off on Friday with another birthday - two really. About ten of us went to dinner at Buddha Bar to celebrate Colleen's ...

... Croatia at 11pm at night instead of 1:30pm. Of course we didn't bother booking a hotel because we figured we'd have no problem finding a room before evening :-) Apparently, our bag was really heavy because it didn't leave Paris, and our other bag stayed to keep it company. And, while we were fruitlessly waiting to claim our luggage, the last bus to Dubrovnik left the airport. Altogether a great beginning for our stay in Croatia, which slowly and reluctantly did get better.)

24 Hours in Paris - Part II

... you have to have 40 euro cents, you had to have it exactly. There was no putting 50 cents in this machine! Hell, why did they stop there? Why not only accept pennies, so the poor ****er who actually has to use this evil contraption wets himself by coin twenty-seven? And there's simply no good segue to go from this subject to that of cute girls, so I'm not even going to try. I had started this topic with Jonathan from Australia back in November when I sampled ...
