... the train ride, saw a lot of farming & wine growing areas. Had nice walk & lunch at Dijon, a very old & pretty town. Then back on bus for trip to meet the boat. We have already made some friends from Canada, Perth & Britain. Lorne & Anne from Canada are lovely, Lorne has a wicked sense of humour like Vern......not sure what we will be in for with the trip. Today we had the opportunity to pay our respects at the Beaumont Hamel. We have a teacher from Newfoundland in our group and they indicated that July 1 is not Canada Day for them - instead it is a Memorial Day. On this day, Newfoundlanders remember the sacrifice of the 700 men of the Newfoundland Regiment, who were killed, wounded or reported missing within the first 30 minutes of action.
