Bar Harbor, ME

... visiting Acadia National Park. This destination is truly one of Mother Nature's greatest achievements, and the local government has made tremendous efforts to keep this park in its natural form. There is plenty for you to do in Bar Harbor, and both the shopping and the nightlife are rocking. From live music to the theater, the city offers plenty of great activities once the sun goes down.

... many of the routes. The loop offers a great variety of terrain from tidal basins to mountain top vistas and although it was an overcast day the leaves were dazzling along the drive.

Senses overwhelmed we stopped near the campground for dinner at the Chart Room; they know how to prepare seafood, excellent charbroiled local scallops for me and Atlantic halibut for George, accompanied by a crisp New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc . . . Life is Good!

... The lobster is taken out, placed in the metal tray and served to you with the clarified butter. I didn`t try a lobster opting instead for a lobster roll. Lobster pounds are located all up and down the coast so I will be brave and try one later in the trip.

... are all in New Hampshire, so the land is rolling and not mountainous. The towns seem older and grittier, and not very scenic. We checked into our hotel in Bangor, and headed out to Bar Harbor for a crustacean-a-rama! The road from Bangor to Bar Harbor was 45 miles of misery. Chopped up and construction everywhere. We expected Bar Harbor to be a sleepy little fishing village. Au Contraire, Pierre, it ...

Got Lobster?

... this far south. There were a number of galleries here that we enjoyed. One shop had a very familiar name.

I wanted to try a lobster roll while I was there. A lobster roll is lump lobster mixed with mayo and some other seasonings in a hot dog bun. We had ours at the Lobster Shack. Very tasty but I couldn't do it for lunch every day. We were enticed into the Lobster Pound by Stone Crab claws as an appetizer. I loved them when I would go to Ft. Lauderdale on ...

Forests, Sea, Lakes, Mountains..and more lobsters!

Today we were in Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island in Maine. Had nice weather today. Unbelievable place. We think its the best island in the world! It has everything, beautiful scenery, mountains, lakes, forests, cycle trails and good summers. In the winter it drops to -30C and they have skiing, cross-country skiing (using the cycle trails!)... and massive lobster trade! Lovely island.

... you’re ever in the neighborhood.

It was now time to take the ten mile car trip down to the end of the island. At the end was their lighthouse that we had seen on our whaling trip. At this point is where we had seen the whales. Not to anyone’s surprise, they were still there with their tell tale sign of a water spout in the water, followed by their large bodies breeching within our sights. It was such an amazing ...

Portland and Bar Harbor Maine

... our Holiday Inn on the Bay in Portland. There were two weddings going on, and we tried to crash them to get some free dinners and/or cookies but they denied us access. (LOL). So we decided to explore downtown Portland, ME. We were mostly surprised what a happening downtown area they have there. We walked until we found a suitable restaurant. It was called Sebago. They had a decent menu, and we were happy to find a cool place to eat since it ...

... the lobsters. I wouldn't say the seafood is cheaper here, but definately caught today-fresh which is well worth it! As you can see from the picture, we did a good job cleaning it out! :) I wanted to see Timber Tina's Great Maine Lumberjack Show, but it was closed for the season!! :( It's supposed to be really good and Tina was a contestant on Survivor Panama even! http://www.mainelumberjack.com/

... I took him over and it looked like everybody's name was Beal on their mail boxes, so her I was in a dark green cargo van, out of state tags and pulling into someones back yard by their boat house in the middle of the night while this stranger ran into the boathouse and came out with a can of gas. I was a little nervous waiting for a bunch of lacals coming out after me with ...
