We set sail at 7 pm last night in very cloudy (smog) conditions. Had a lovely dinner at a new table on the upper level of the restaurant and met a nice couple from Melbourne. They are travelling Singapore to Hong Kong as are most people we have met except the round the worlders (one couple from Caloundra would you believe) who then fly back home from UK. Early night ...

... about that later) bikinis/shorts and we were ready! Again some staring was going on, but Des kept an eye out so the guys wouldn't take pictures of us. One little girl walked up to us, stopped and just stared at Clíona. Could see the amazement in her eyes. Miriam wasn't sure if she thought it was cute or creepy, haha! Dadonghai bay was right next to the bar we were in yesterday, so we knew where we were. Quick drinks from Starbucks (Cian had 2 for 1 vouchers, ...

... is getting us tired a bit already! Quite hard to get a taxi with 4 people and backpacks. Turns out that all taxis in Haikou have this gas tank in the back of the car, so you barely have any space in the boot to put your bags in. After the taxi driver helping us, we finally got them all in. Now trying to buy train tickets to Sanya, all signs are in Chinese and there is no sign of any English speaking people. So we decided that Miriam would ...

Day 5, haikou and sanya!

A travel blog entry by cliona on Feb 01, 2015

... Had to split up in two's for the train. Miriam and Clíona had seats in section 5 of the train while Des and Cian had seats in section 1. Both sections were nice and clean. Had a little coupé that we shared with other people. In section 5 a family with kids were sitting in the coupé right next to us. The kids weren't really quiet but sure that didn't bother us, but the man sitting opposite us wasn't too pleased! Don't know what he said, but don't think it ...
