TravelPod Member ReviewsCourtyard by Marriott Miami Beach South Beach

Historical Traveler Reviews Courtyard by Marriott Miami Beach South Beach
Soft beds, small room!
i booked this hotel based on the reviews on the web site and the general standards of marriott. first of all it was spring break. the reception informed me some rooms had 6 people sleeping in them and they could not stop it! the first night we did not sleep at all due to spring breakers running in the halls and slaming doors. but the staff did help with this situation in the morning.
it is in seedy area - opposite an old strip club. the roof top pool is small and nothing special, towels are tiny and no sun shades.
the bed is super soft and i got a back ache. our room was tiny. no space to put anything and not so clean. one day they did not clean the bathroom at all just change the towels - i told the manager and he suggested the maid missed a bit - no way, nothing was done. we got back very late at night so there was no housekeeping staff then. but i did look into some other rooms and they were twice the size of mine.
i would not stay here again i do not feel it is a good value and i have stayed in many marriott hotels and cheaper ones have been much better.
Location, Location, Location - everything else just okay
The Courtyard is perfectly situated for everything you would want to do in South Beach - Lincoln Road's shopping and restaurants, Collins Ave. Hotels' swanky bars, dance clubs (even one next door), and the beach are all within a short walk from the hotel. The service was dependent entirely on the person you talked to. Some staff members always say "no" to any request, while others were very accommodating (Thank you, Viviana and Joe). It seems that the service anywhere in Miami is hit or miss (mostly miss) no matter how much you're paying. Beware of the horrible beds (thin foam mattresses) and poor lighting. Otherwise, the rooms are clean and roomy. The rooftop pool is nice, but only 4' deep. I suggest taking the 25 cent S.B. Electrowave shuttle down to the Marriott (at 2nd & Ocean) and using their pool and beach facilities.
What you would expect from Courtyard
Spent 4 nights at the South Beach Courtyard in January 05 for a little R&R. For those who travel a great deal on business or otherwise know the Courtyard product, this hotel is exactly what you expect from a Courtyard hotel. Clean, well maintained and well run, but unspectacular. Prices are fair for this hotel (knowing that South Beach is simple a pricey place to stay.) It is centrally located on Washington at 15th, within easy walking distance of the beach, Lincoln, Espanola, Collins and all the other hot spots. The best feature of this hotel for us was the location - we liked being able to walk to nearly everything. There are a number of small markets/bodegas and liquor stores in the same block. Valet parking is $21 per night, which is high but there is really no other place to park so get used to it. Being an "in town" hotel there is the usual collection of street people, etc. wandering around but we never felt unsafe or threatened in any way. Remember that South Beach rocks until 5 a.m. most days, so you should expect some guest noise at odd hours of the night. We found the staff to be up to Marriott standards; they were professional and efficient, correcting a slow shower drain in our room within 30 minutes of being notified. As long as you don't expect a 5 star beach resort you'll be quite satisfied with the South Beach Courtyard - even more satisfied when you don't pay 5 star beach resort prices!
So-so...
I stayed at the Courtyard over the Christmas 04 Holiday season. The quality of the service staff is better than average is the good news. The bad news is that they charge $20+ per day to park your car. Which is necessary because there are more than your average number of street people lurking about.
You don't get much for your money
My husband and I recently stayed a night at the Courtyard South Beach. The hotel is directly across the street from a strip club. This didn't bother me too much but I definitely would not want to bring children to a place like that. It is also next door to a nightclub, so it was obviously quite loud there. However, it is within walking distance of lots of restaurants, shopping, the beach, etc. We were fortunately upgraded to a "suite" apon arrival. Thank goodness for that, because even the "suites" are small. I guess you just can't get much for your money in South Beach. The rooftop pool was nice - that is probably the best thing about the hotel.
In general, I don't think I'll go back to South Beach again. I found it to be pretty trashy, dirty, and downright disappointing. I kept hearing about all the "beautiful people" who are there, but all we saw were a bunch of unhip tourists. We ventured over to the Delano hotel and we enjoyed our time there, but after reading the reviews for that place, I wouldn't go there either!
Great Hotel
We arrived on the 28th August, greeted by the staff we were made feel like we were checking into a top five star hotel.
The room itself was good, clean and a nice view of the ocean. Like the typical Irish person we dumped our bags in our room and headed for the bar.
I found the staff to be brilliant, extremely polite and very eager to help.
The Courtyard is only a stroll from the action (we got taxis) but it is far enough to be quite. It's right on the beach, with its own pool.
Conclusion, I didn't expect a lot from this hotel, but we got a lot...I would strongly recommend this hotel.....Price is right, good location, nice rooms & great staff.
Great!
Had my 30th B-day in South Beach, had friends to fly from east and west coast, and they loved the location of the hotel, not too far from the action, not too close to the noise. 2 blocks from the beach, 2 blocks to Lincoln, 2 blocks to Ocean Dr....Perfect place, great rates and excellent service, would definitely stay again!
Great
Stayed at hotel in mid July 2004. Hotel was clean and room was big. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Hotel is about 4 blocks from the beach and a block and half from Lincoln Rd. Great location. There was a rooftop pool, which I did not have a chance to use. Would definitely go back.
Worth the price..5/04
My wife and I stayed at the Courtyard South Beach May 6th and 7th 2004. The roof top pool was awesome. The Hotel was very nice, quiet and clean. We had a LARGE room in the front. It was well worth the price we paid. The area around it left a little to be desired but we felt safe for the most part. It was close to the Lincoln mall and a short walk to Jerry's deli for food and just a few blocks to the heart of SoBe and the ocean. When we go back, I'd stay here again if I can't find something on Ocean Dr in the same price range.
Nice clean place
This Marriott is perfectly located. Its a 30 second walk to the start of Lincoln Road. Alos, the streets go (from the Ocean) Ocean, Collins, Washington. And here you are, on Washington. Its right in the middle of everything but off the heavier traffic of the other two. Perfect walking locatin to everything.
This hotel is very new, and has a decent work out room, coin laundry (helpful) and a roof top pool and deck.
The rooms are all decent sizes. This is nicer than a lot of th tourist hotels, but does have a business traveler feel, but its not a lower Courtyard - definetly a higher end one.
