Diversity Happens

A travel blog entry by claypuddles

I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED that New York was as diverse as it is. In the busyness of the lives that it seems each New Yorker and even visitor (be it a guest of family, business wo/man, backpacker or tourist), there seemed to have been a state-wide understanding that "Diversity Happens". There was not a negative eye from the Muslim woman to the …

Day Two: Show and Shopping

We decided to wake up rather early and head a couple of blocks down the street to Essa-Bagel for breakfast. After coffee and food, we were ready for some shopping, so we walked up 3rd Avenue and hit several shops that were having great sales. Michelle bought a beautiful red evening bag, and the girls each bought a couple of things. It was soon time …

Day Three: Shopping and Show

It's Sunday morning, everyone needs a shower, so I decided to get up a bit early and walk over to Essa-Bagel to bring back breakfast and coffee. The line was enormous! A very sweet guy helped me and loved the fact that I was from Atlanta - he told me, "Y'all come back now, y'hear?" as I was leaving! After breakfast, we took the subway over to the …

Day Four: Tea and Sympathy

We slept in a bit late today, then decided to head back to the West Village to have English Tea at a very cute place called Tea & Sympathy. The food was incredible as was the tea! We did a little shopping in the tea shoppe next door, then walked into the Village for more shopping. The weather was warm enough that we didn't even need coats! On …

    Great place to stay

    from anonymous

We spent last weekend at this hotel, and it looked familiar - it was the old MacMillan Book Publishing building in an earlier incarnation! So, the rooms were larger than normal. The hvac system was new. The ceilings were higher. Actually, we got a great commercial location at a bargain price!

The walk to Fifth Avenue is steps away. Great place to use as a shopping base. Walked to the theatres. Central Park is blocks away. Good value for the money. Marriott service is always good, and this is no exception. Except here one does not have to over-pay. Recommend it highly.

    May 2004 visit

    from cathdav

I am not a lover of the east side, but love the location of this hotel. Very close to Bloomingdales and good window shopping.

The hotel is a typical Courtyard, but certainly a clean, accomodating place and one I would visit again.

March 2004 stay @ Courtyard Midtown East

    from carol

Just back from New York...thanks to all who take the time to write reviews. They are always informative and helpful when trying to choose a hotel. I agree with all the past writings and I too would like to add that the staff at this hotel is outstanding. They went out of their way to be helpful. We arrived early and (10:00AM) were given a room right away. We thought we would just check luggage and come back later.

Instead we checked into our room, unpacked and had the rest of the day.We had breakfast at the hotel each morning and the staff each morning, made it a pleasure to be there. Buffet is $14.95 but you can also order off the menu. The room was very spacious and a comfy bed, room decor is not fancy more"business" like. Clean and everything needed for your stay. We forgot and left a privacy sign on the door one day so housekeeping never made it in. They called while we were out and that evening brought clean towels, emptied the garbage and made sure we had what we needed. The staff really makes this courtyard. Location was great for us because we went downtown and uptown, so to be in the middle worked. We used the bus and walking distance to a lot of attractions. Great stay and would definitely return. Enjoy NY we did!

    Good Deal

    from anonymous

My husband and I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Midtown East last weekend and we found the location great. Right across from the subway and walking distance to St. Patrick's, Rockafella Ctr., Radio City and Times Square. Great deal for the price. Rooms were nothing fancy, but certainly clean and adequate. I would definitely stay there again. A very friendly and helpful staff!

    Pretty good for your money

    from sunlvr2288

We were pleased with the property.

The hotel lobby and entrance were always kept clean with friendly people to assist you. The hotel offers valet parking, which is a big plus for us.

The room was cleaned every day and the staff was very friendly

    Excellent considering the price.

I stay there for weeks at time. A real "bang for the buck" deal.

    Great inexpensive hotel

    from anonymous

Great inexpensive hotel. Checkin was prompt and we were given a 2 bed double on the 27th floor. The room was clean, with iron, ironing board and blow dryer. A refrigerator was available on request. The bellman held our bags for our late afternoon departure and arranged for a car to take us to Laguardia. A subway station was across the street and the neighborhood included several reasonably priced restaurants. A drug store is next door. We walked home from Times Square more than once and felt very safe in the neighborhood. I would definitely stay there again.

Our Family liked the Courtyard Midtown.

    from anonymous

We just returned from a two night stay at the Courtyard in Midtown NY.

The room was clean and spacious and we got a really good rate considering other NY hotels. The location was good, wished we would have stayed a little closer to Times Square but were able to get around due to close Metro stop. I would recommend this hotel and will probably visit again.

    First Class

    from 1bob

This is a first rate hotel. The staff is unusually friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The location can't be beat. One of the best places to stay in NYC!

Good place to stay if you can get a deal

    from tomcat33333

If you have a reason to stay on the East Side (Third Avenue in the vicinity of 52nd Street), this could be the hotel for you. Rooms are a tad small, but the bed is mega-comfortable. The neighborhood has plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. The conceirge was extra-helpful with requests for information about the neighborhood.

Paid a bit under $200 for the room, which is not high by New York standards. Still, I've stayed in almost as good for a lot less. If you can get a deal on a room here, it's worth it.
