The weather has turned cold....I guess it is November. So, we decided to go for a drive and see some of the area inside a warm vehicle! We headed to Norfolk to see the Navy Port and for the last time see the USS Enterprise. The USS Enterprise came into port on Sunday. They are going to decommission this ship, send it off and break it down into scrap metal. Sort of a shame but what do you do with an old and probably ...

We are at the beach, Virginia Beach to be exact. The weather is fabulous low 60's and sunny yeah! First thing this morning we took Shylo for a walk on the beach, she loved it especially the freedom to run. We will be here for at least a week. Dam Neck ANNEX is where our son Gary went to school while he was in the Navy. It is fun to drive around the base and see where he went to ...

Hello Everyone,

After the storm we took two days to sail from Solomons to Norfolk with an overnight just north of the mouth of the Rappahannock River.

We have a new pocket video recording device and we are experimenting with it. The video that you find in the "photos" section below documents the trip.

Historical Traveler Reviews Courtyard by Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront / South

    Nice Hotel

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Courtyard Oceanfront South for just one night on November 17, 2003. Had a hard time selecting a hotel based on the reviews here, so I finally called the Visitor's Center in VA Beach and asked for the newest hotels on the beach. I thought the location was great and the room was very nice. We had a suite and it was a really spacious . The bathroom was huge, but very institutional. The woman at the front desk at check in was extremely nice. Also, I had to work in the lobby that evening, and really appreciated the complimentary coffee and tea service set out near the restaurant. We were also right in the middle of a nice Christmas light display on the boardwalk. My kids loved it! I asked for a late check out the next day and the staff grudgingly gave me until 12:30. They could have been a bit more gracious, but did give me a bit of an extension after some haggling.

    We'd come back.

    Clean, new

    from Myrtlebeach-visitor

The room was excellent, stayed on the 9th floor in a 2 bed room. Bathroom appeared new and very clean. Room was larger than expected with a comfortable settee. Bedding was very comfortble (the comforter was very clean new and warm) Carpeting, wall covering appeared new. View was beautiful and unobstructed. Even the hallway view was fantastic. Staff was friendly and efficient. Parking was limited (as many hotels on the beach are) but an adjacent hotel was empty (closed for season??) so we parked there.

    Better than I expected!

    from anonymous

I read all of the reviews first on this particular hotel. I was a little skeptical but thought I would give it a try. I am please to say the experience was great! More than I expected from reading other reviews. The hotel was very clean and service was great. The only inconvience was parking. Not enough space close to the hotel, but the overflow garage across the street worked out fine. I will stay here again.

    Won't go back

The hotel was filthy it looked like our suite was never cleaned the pull out couch was a joke it was so uncomfortable. Some days our room didn't get cleaned until after 3:00pm. The restaurant the food and service was good but the AC was not working so we had to eat outside.

    The Best in VA Beach

    from anonymous

I have been going to VA Beach for the last 20 years and stayed in a different hotel each time. My first time at the Courtyard Marriot and found it to be the best one yet. The cleanest and nicest friendliest by far.

    Not worth the money

    from anonymous

I hated this hotel- I didn't feel like the rooms were clean- the carpet especially! The bathroom was ok, but small- and I didn't really feel like the beds were all that clean definitely not worth $200/night- the only good thing about the room was the ocean view. the indoor pool was small and crowded and our waiter didn't even speak english- we ordered an appetizer and drinks and he brought 4 of the same appetizer (1 for each person!) I definitely would not recommend this hotel nor would I return!

    Where Is the Health Department

    from anonymous

This hotel does not meet the standards and reviews that I have read.

Staying here was a total disappointment and costly. The suite was dirty and the furniture was worn out. The accommodations were advertised as having a sleep sofa. It looked like something from a sleazy motel from the 1950's and really was not suitable for sleeping. Once opened for sleeping, there was no walk room between the bed and the table, so we had to climb onto the bed and walk over it to get to the other side of the room. The air conditioner in the living area had spills on the side, like dripped coffee that had not been wiped up. There were cobwebs gathered at the bottom of the unit and the filter was clogged with dirt. The handle on the dresser was broken and hanging loose. The refrigerator had not been defrosted for months and the freezer part was totally frozen closed, thus no way to store anything in the freezer area. The lower part of the refrigerator did not cool properly. The bathroom was dirty. The tile around the floor baseboard had dirt accumulated and splashes of brown stains on the tile and wall area-- I can only imagine what caused them. The door to the room was stuck and had to be forced open. There were no amenities such as Kleenix, writing tablet, or toiletries. The overall appearance of the suite was that it had not been thoroughly cleaned all year. It was a no-frills dump.

    I'm going back!

We were very satisfied with the Courtyard Marriott. Everything was great, the facility was very well kept, our room was excellent. The hotel is right on the main strip, so there was lots to do. We highly recommend the Courtyard.

    Dirty Shower

    from anonymous

We booked a room here based on the highly rated reviews we read at this site, but were quickly disappointed once we arrived. First the valet parking attendant suggested we park our own car. We arrived at the check-in time of 3 pm but our room was not ready, so we were waiting in the lobby for our room to become available and after 25 minutes went back up to the desk and the room was then ready, but how long would have we sat there until they finally remembered to call our name. We arrived in the room, and the view was great.. but went into the bathroom and the shower was filthy. A light rub on the back of the shower wall easily removed the grime so it was not stained it was just plain dirty. We called the front desk and they offered someone to come clean it, i would have preferred just being moved to another room at that point. The cleaning person came in with a spray bottle and we were on are way out so we left. On our way out we decided to take the stairwell down because the elevator was soooo slow. We had to hold our breath going down the stairs, it was the most musty stinky disgusting carpeted stairwell I have ever encountered. It needed a major steam cleaning or carpet replacement. When we returned the shower looked as if she had just sprayed the bottle and did not wipe it off, there were just streaks of cleaner in the dirt. It was just as gross as when we originally looked at it. We checked out of the hotel and they gave us no hassle. I could not justify paying $150/night for a big-name hotel that is dirty and cannot resolve such a simple problem as thoroughly cleaning their guest bathrooms. Comfort Inn is a much better choice for the money.
