Last day of tour today. Most of it was spent driving from Prague to Vienna. Am kinda happy to be going back to London. Really loved all the places we visited but I think having the flu and travelling with the people in the group wasn't that great (aside from the fantastic aussie family) and hence has made me feel a little homesick. On the way back to Vienna we stopped off at a place in the Czech Republic that had been the summer Palace of the Liechtenstein Royal Family before communism (was r...

... Deputy Chief of US Mission to the Int**national Organizations in Vienna, and to Ambassador Ali Asghar Soltanieh, the Iranian Ambassador to Austria. It was a really amazing seminar, lots of high drama in IR. The last session was a panel “discussion” but it turned into more of a debate and the claws w**e out and th**e w**e fireworks, not so much between Iran and the USA, but between Iran and ev**yone else and Iran and a form** US diplomat ...
Vienna, Vienna, Austria hachbach... the fabulous public transportation, we headed out there for some more art in a palace experience. The Belvedere used to be a summer residence for some royal family, but has since been turned into an art museum. They have a bunch of collections, but the one we checked out was mainly Austrian Art from the middle ages forward. It was a good activity for a rainy day. We spent our last evening in Vienna with our hosts and their friends, sitting around their kitchen table ...
Vienna, Vienna, Austria eyre... for the Naschmarkt. The Naschmarkt is an open-air market that stretches along the path of the Wien River. At this point the river is underground, so the market sits above the river. It is full of stands selling different kinds of fresh fruits, vegtables, nuts, meat, fish and poultry. Additionally you can get different kinds of sweets, cheese, souvenirs, etc. There are also a lot of cafes and restaurants. Going there after my huge meal at Figlmüller was actually a good idea ...

Vienna, Austria oyvindsandve... years, but in 71 different houses. Saw memorials to Freud, Goethe and Dr Seuss. Big opera houses and obligatory huge cathedral that we couldn't get into as it was Sunday, and hundreds of Viennese musicians in traditional dress were coming out, and freezing their little butts off after a service. Went back to the restaurant we visited on our first night to have another lovely Wiener Schnitzel, and complete the cycle.
Vienna, Vienna, Austria gregd999I don't know what version of Free you might subscribe to, but here in Vienna if a parking garage claims to be free-don't believe it. And if your apartment owner says free parking is across the street-definitely don't believe it. I learned the hard way that a free parking garage still costs around $50 a day! Yep, you saw right, $50 a day, 3 days cost me 105 euro or about $153! So ...
Vienna, Austria manofmayo... the top of a school desk, and the leg shaving took some work. We went to the inner ring of Vienna and walked around St. Stephen's Square. We toured the church and the catacombs underneath which house bones of plague victims and the internal organs of the Hapsburgs. We walked around for an hour trying to find the only synagogue to survive the Kristalnacht in Vienna, only to see it looked just like an apartment building and you couldn't even go in ...
Vienna, Austria kellyfox... haha We arrived in Vienna in the early afternoon to which then Tunde left us with a local guide. We first did a bus tour passing the state opera, parliament, town hall, churches, museums and a very old ferris wheel. We stopped at Hero's Square to see the Hofburg Imperial Palace. (from the outside of course) Starting in 1279, it was the home of many kings and emperors and is now the official seat of the President of Austria. Our female guide made ...
