The waves broke over where we were and just a little bit of my pants got wet but not to worry - this was fresh water and the pants dried nicely. It was hard to get my head around the notion that water and sand do not mean salt water. It would have been good to come at a time when I could have swum in the water and experienced that activity. ... was an area that was obviously where the tourists went to take buggy rides and browse the shops. It reminded me of Montville on a weekend but in American Amish country. It was interesting to see the horses and buggies going along the road shoulder and cars on the road. We saw so many horses and buggies in a small area in such a short period of time and it was not put on for the tourists. That was just how I wanted to see their community.

From Chicago we headed north on route 94 towards Michigan City where we turned onto the 20 to South Bend. Quite a lot of road works along the route from near Starved Rock.
