For our first day in this area, we drove south on US 59. We could have gone all the way to Houston, but that was a little too far, so we stopped in Marshall. Well, I-10 and I-12 are in no better shape than last trips. It's like riding a roller coaster for 2 hours. Luckily I-49 was much better. We took I-49 North to line up with Hwy 380 in Texas. ... with a little picket fence and an arbor gate. It's most outstanding feature was bush roses with the most outstanding fragrance. They were sweet and lemony and could smelled from 3 feet away.

It was a disappointment. The some of the gardens felt forlorn and abandoned. We got a few pictures of some individual roses, but there just wasn’t much to see. ...

    Rain Day

Well, it looks like a rainy day today. There is rain with thunder storms forecast. Well, it's spring. We’re staying in to wash clothes and make some changes in travel plans. We’re cutting out a couple of stops and getting to Asheville a bit earlier. We’ll return to Durham at the same time however.

It rained intermittently all day. The weather people are warning of ...
