    ... be taking the car in the middle of the night for a bathroom break! The only thing preventing me from sleeping is the sound of a train in the distance. I wondered what huge beast of an animal was in the distance- then heard the train "hoot hoot".     ... Bob could really care less. We drove into town and stopped in the historic courthouse where they have a museum about the history of Marshall (once again what I like and Bob tolerates). It was kind of interesting and we learned some of native sons and daughters. George Foreman is one native son of Marshall and even though she wasn't born there, Lady Bird grew up and went to school there. ...

    Well, I-10 and I-12 are in no better shape than last trips. It's like riding a roller coaster for 2 hours. Luckily I-49 was much better. We took I-49 North to line up with Hwy 380 in Texas. This is a small 2 lane highway to nowhere. Roswell, The Very Large Array, Valley of the Fires and the Painted Desert are accessible from this road.

    ... the time I hit the outskirts of Shreveport... nothing. There is always something, but nothing has yet come to mind. Oh, well. The goal is Meridian, MS by suppertime, which should be an easy drive, since we left at 1:30 PM.     ... with a little picket fence and an arbor gate. It's most outstanding feature was bush roses with the most outstanding fragrance. They were sweet and lemony and could smelled from 3 feet away.

    It was a disappointment. The some of the gardens felt forlorn and abandoned. We got a few pictures of some individual roses, but there just wasn’t much to see. ...
