First night at San Juan

It was a much awaited & welcome break from the cold winter days of upstate New York when we decided to go for a vacation to Puerto Rico in the middle of January. We didn't do a whole lot of planning for this trip; it just happened when a few days before the trip I found this awesome deal while browsing the web and decided its time to pack our bags & leave for a few days. And we did have a short, sweet & very enjoyable trip; one that will keep me going till the next one is around t...

El Yunque Rain Forest & Luquilo Beach

We decided to check out the beautiful tropical rain forests of Puerto Rico on our first day of the trip. Our guide for the day was this local guy who was friendly & knew a lot about all the flora & fauna of the forests. We had a mother & daughter couple as fellow travelers with us for this trip to the rain forest. We do love to spend time outdoors; not to say that we are athletic, but we just love being a little closer to nature than we can afford to most of the time! For us this t...

A day in Old San Juan

So on our third day in Puerto Rico we decided to spend the day in Old San Juan & explore the Hacienda style architecture and also try out some authentic Puerto Rican food. Luck being on our side, we were there in the midst of San Sebastian festival, a grand gala spanning over a week. The whole city of Old San Jun beamed with live music, dance and a huge festive crowd flooding the streets and alleys of the city. Old San Juan is about 3.5 km (Yeah! It's 'km'. The distance is posted in km wh...

Would Not Stay Again

from drumie711
I made sure to specifically ask for a double room/non smoking when I made the reservation and I had gotten confirmation that that room type was gaurenteed. However, when I got there, they were over booked and had to stay in a smoking room and only got $20 knocked off my stay. Not to mention the people at the front desk were not helpful. I tried getting simple instructions to the Bacardi factory and asked for them on paper, the lady replied that its easy, you dont need paper directions. The pool is a joke as it never sees sunlight because it is blocked by all the buildings. The AC in our room would not turn off so it was always freezing cold. The bathrooms are very small. Overall, nor would I or my company ever stay at this hotel again in the future when we visit Puerto Rico.

Nice Get Away!

from femavacation
My husband and I just returned from vacationing in San Juan. We truly enjoyed our stayed at the Miramar. The staff members that we met were very pleasant and greeted us with welcoming smiles! We had a 10th floor room that was very clean along with the lobby and hallways! I know you don't stay in the lobby and hallways but first impressions do count! So for the price we were pleased.

Previously, we had booked at a luxury resort a further distance away from Old San Juan and canceled to be closer into the city. I am glad that we did because we could catch the bus right downtown(really cheap) and it only took about 10 minutes or so.

Also, we booked a couple of tours(kinda pricey), which we enjoyed, however, shop around closer to the ports and I think you will get a better deals on the various tours being offered. We were anxious and enjoyed being picked up from the hotel so that 's the price you pay.

Good Value Near Old San Juan

Stayed at this Courtyard pre-cruise for one night. Upgraded to a suite using points. Well worth the upgrade, but the hotel itself was in good condition and the staff was helpful. The Suite room was large and comfortable with a seperate sitting area. Large closet and small but well appointed bathroom. All in all a good deal for the money as well as location. Also the French resteraunt attached to the hotel has some very nice seafood dishes (pricey, but very good).

Such a Mistake

Just recently some friends and myself stayed at this HOTEL... Let me say that I was truley disappointed at the way the front desk personal in PARTICULAR "OSVALDO" of the night shilft...He would have a prblem bringing extra towels and sheets and would make us go downstairs to pick them up.. but that's not all... he also gave me attitude and was not very welcoming at all. Over all the hotel was clean and it's location is convenient... but after the fourth day I wanted to run out screaming because of the poor customer service. I am sad to say that this man made my stay at the hotel very uncomfortable and I would not reccommend people to stay at this hotel... I rather pay a bit extra and be treated as a paying customer!!!!! One tip for people... don't let pictures fool you!

Very nice place to stay.

I stayed at the Marriott @ Mirimar for my honeymoon. The staff was really nice. The valet parking is $12 a day but worth because parking on the street was impossible to find. During the day the staff is very helpful if you inquire about site seeing. The have a monitor in the lobby by the front desk that gives you all the hightlights of great tourist attractions. The rooms are very nice except for the bathrooms. In a regular room the bathrooms are very small, adequate but small. We were upgraded to a suite when they found out we were on our honeymoon. Very nice...the rooms are really nice and the bathrooms are much more spacious. This definetly a great place to stay and you are only minutes away from Old San Juan. :)

Great place to stay

I just got back from a weekend at the San Juan Courtyard Miramar. I was concerned after reading the reviews of the Hotel Excelsior, which was the name of this hotel until it was renovated and became a Courtyard. I wanted to use points and this was the only hotel in San Juan that was available and didn't require a ton of points.

Overall my stay was a great. The rooms were very clean, fresh, and quiet. There was no longer any construction in the area. The pool area was small but very nice for a quick dip. The fitness room was pathetic, with just a couple weights and a treadmill, but not really my priority.

The hotel is convenient to the airport, old San Juan, and nightlife along the av ponce de leon. We drove to Ocean Park beach which wasn't far. It would be a good idea to have a car when staying at this hotel, although taxis seemed to be plentiful.

The staff was very friendly. There are laundry services on-site and they provide free supplies. We ate at the French Bistro in the hotel and the food and service were excellent. The other restaurant was very upscale so we didn't try it.

The only issue was that housekeeping was slow to clean the rooms. I think they're still going through some adjustment on change in management. There was plenty of staff on-site, when we called for extra towels they were brought up quickly. The front desk was helpful with any questions. The only parking is Valet for $12 a day, but they were quick and attentive.

Overall a great stay.

Great Hotel

I stayed at the miramar for 2 days in march and it was great the staff friendly, the rooms were very clean. The miramar has pool, a restaurant and is within walking distance of stores and a short bus ride to old san juan. It doesnt have a beach but you can take the bus or a cab to the beach.

Come to puerto rico!!!!! happy travels

Not quite up to Marriott Standards

from Bellesie
I know this is a newer Marriott property... with that said... we stayed in a junior suite (5th floor) and it was nice (with the exception of having to listen to the elevator go up and down all night). I travel a lot for business and was able to use my rewards, so "free" was good. Everything was freshly painted, the carpet was new, the mattress was nice and bedding was clean. The bathroom was nicely decorated, however the tub was very small, probably only 4 feet long. There is a pool, it is small and we didn't use it.

The location was good, it was easy to hop on the bus to take it into Old San Juan. $.50 each way, take 1 and get off at the last stop. The Hi Speed Island ferry is in Old San Juan too, if you decide to go to Culebra or Vieques. There is a grocery store across the street (the suite had a small fridge), along with a Subway, Papa John's Pizza, and The Taco Maker. There are a few ATM's as well. The neighborhood was decent and we felt safe walking around.

Service didn't seem to be the strong point of this hotel. We checked in, they wanted me to pay for the upgrade that I had used points for- it did get resolved. The second day, our room wasn't cleaned. We didn't notice until later in the evening when we came back from Old San Juan, so I went to the front desk for some clean towels. They sent up a cleaning crew, but we were trying to get ready to go out so we turned them away. The following evening, we went up to our room and our key had been deactivated. I went to the front desk and got new ones, but received no apology or explaination of what happened.

The staff is not equipped to handle tourists. The only map they have is the one that can be found in the magazine up in your room, and it's not very detailed. We went to Bacardi and the guy working the front desk did a little happy dance (I'm not kidding) and said "WOO HOO, Bacardi! I was just there!" and informed me that it was close to where he lives. He could not give me street names or good directions to get there. His advice "Take the ferry."

Overall, I'd give the quality of room a 4, but the staff a 2, which I guess makes the rating average.

Great stay in San Juan!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just got back from a 4 night trip to Puerto Rico. We stayed at the Courtyard in Miramar for 2 nights because we wanted to stay in San Juan for a day and explore the city. Also, I used marriott points so it was free for us but from the price range i've seen online, it's a deal. Plus the location was great! It was about a $15 cab ride from the international airport. The hotel seems to have gone under a huge renovation as Marriott took over this hotel. Everything was new and spotless. The lobby was tastefully decorated and the people at the front desk were very very nice. They gave us great advice on places to eat, see and hang out. They pointed out a place 2 blocks down "Los Pinos Cafe" which is kind of diner-ish but the food was VERY reasonably priced and it was sooooooo delicious! Plus it's open 24 hours so it's a great place to go for midnight cravings. We had a king bed room and it was again very clean and with nice decor. The bathroom was brand new although a bit small. To get to Old San Juan, you can take a bus which is less than a block from the hotel and it takes you directly there for $0.75!!! The hotel also has 2 restaurants which are supposedly highly regarded. But we didnt eat there because we tried to spend as much time outside the hotel. Overall, it was a great stay and it made our time in san juan VERY comfortable!

Not bad for a quick getaway

ME and my Hubby just returned from San Juan,PR-I hate to say this but the beaches werent as good as they boast. We stayed at fairly decent Mariott Miramara on ponce de leon. The Italian restaurant in the lobby is awesome and quite upscale. All and all the best par tof our trip i thought was the El-Junqye rain forest and the Old san Juan (Boardwalk too).I love the atmospehere and ofcourse the food there.I guess we were so short on time never really made it to any beaches. The one we stopped by was all rocky with corals and a little trash too.On a Scale of 1- 10 I give our trip experience a 7.
