      Last full day in New Orleans......the girls drove out of the city to the plantations along the river about an hour away. We did two tours and both were so informative about the beginnings and paths that slavery took. The Creole people set up these plantations all along the banks of the Mississippi and once their plantations grew they needed staff to work them. Most farmed sugar cane, pecans and fruit but ...

      ... State University. The home was in a fairly nice neighborhood, ad was about 50 years old. It had the looks of a house owned and in lived in by a college student, of which the owner was. She wasn't staying there, but another guest was. She was a 30ish lawyer working for a political action committee out of New York City, attempting to get out the vote for some unknown candidate in Kansas.

      1/10/2014 We r finally going south - somewhere warmer! Really just about any place will b warmer than last wkend (-45 to-55 below zero wind chill). UGH. Left home at 8:30am - Dave C & Brad were out & waved as we pulled out. Temp is 24 and it's grey & cloudy. Opie is sooo excited to be in truck w us!!       Started out the day milking goats, and then making goat cheese with The Goat Cheese Lady, all arranged by Karen. Had lunch in Manitou, and then packed up and started drive east into Kansas. Unfortunately the Sand Creek Massacre site was closed when we got there. Kansas was flat as expected, but on highways still quite beautiful.
