    ... there we took it easy and went to Rockford, IL in two days, about 95km. We couldn't find a warmshower host so we turned to couchsurfing. The next day we cycled to White Pine Forest State Park (60km, 37 miles). We met up with cousin John and his friends. We stayed a couple nights, tubed down the Rock river, had lots of fun!

    ... blast. We walked all over the zoo, the adjoining nature preserve and even some downtown Chicago when we took a wrong turn through the park. The animals there were very cool and I loved how excited and enthusiastic the girls were while we walked around. Phoebe would gasp in wonder while Claire would spout off facts that she either remembered (thank you Wild Kratts!) or read from the signs, Oriah would talk to the animals giving them stories and insisting we should get a few as pets.     ... who only occasionally get together were enjoying being together. It was much like Christmas without the Christmas tree, gifts & religious observance. One of the young cousins led the grace & thanksgiving and the meal got under way at close to 7.30pm. Most people in America have trouble initially with Max's accent but when in the South even more so, and us with their accents. But we knew a number of the people there and had a great night.     ... at 7 central just in time for SYTYCD! We were pleasantly surprised by our Red Roof Inn which showcased plenty of outlets to charge our devices, laminate floors (no dirty hotel carpet here!), a microwave and fridge.
