Friendly staff. Good location (about 10 minutes walk to the pedestrian walkway that leads to the Marienplatz. Easy access to the train station, S-bahn and U-bahn stops. Exactly what you would expect from a Courtyard. Good restaurant on property for breakfast. Quiet (we were overlooking the courtyard away from a street room). Some have noted no air con but that is a rare find. Every place we have stayed in Europe has been without a/c. Airline staff stays here. We always look for hotels where the flight crew stays - it means you have a solid and reliable property.

VEry comfortable hotel, close to munich city center
The rooms at this Courtyard were very comforable. On our trip to Germany we stayed mostly at German hotels (no A/C!) that were charming. However, while in Munich we stayed at an American chain (Marriott) and it was very comfortable. This a/c was a welcome break and the beds were comfortable and the rooms were very quiet. The staff was very freindly. It is about a 6 block walk to pedestrian zone and old Munich. Hotels are hard to come by in this area, so the Courtyard is about your best bet for location. The immediate area around the hotel is not the best, a few adult clubs, etc. But if this doesn't bother you, a short walk gets you to the busy pedestrian area of Munich. I would stay there again, no real complaints.
Close to Shopping and Dining
The CY Munich City Center is close to the major shopping streets (higher end shopping) and lots of german restaurants. The famous Dallmayr (food emporium) and other famous german stores are about a 10 -15 min walk.
Coffee shops are on the street for a quick breakfast. Since the hotel is located close to the train station, there are some youth hostels filled with typical college and hs aged kids - mostly american..so, lots of cheap places for late night dinner.
It was about 30 minutes from the airport.
Rooms were a bit smaller, but nothing unusua for a european hotel. Front Desk staff was nice and helpful about recommending eateries.
Great little hotel
I have to say this hotel is a little gem. Ok it may be on the small side but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm. Although the area it is in may not be that attractive, it is safe and very convenient for visiting the main tourist sights (less than 10 mins walk away) and for transport further afield (2 mins from the main train station Hauptbahnhof)
The rooms are fairly large, with (in mine) two small double-ish sized beds, with good amenities including tea and coffee making, ice bucket, TV, brand new modern iron and board. The bathroom was small but big enough, with a shower over bath arrangement.
The restaurant (where breakfast is also served) is superb - well cooked, simple Italian-inspired menu served in an elegant, dark wood ambience by attentive and pleasant staff. During the day the restaurant is bright with daylight from the inner courtyard of the hotel. Breakfast is a very large buffet, including muesli (lots of different types), a huge selection of cured meats, cheese, bread, fresh fruit, cooked meats, eggs, waffles, pastries, etc. You could seriously set yourself up for the day here.
Lastly the staff overall were really great - very friendly and always willing to help.
In short, I would recommend the hotel without reservation
Nice inside, but neighborhood leaves a bit to be desired
The nice thing about the Courtyard hotel in Munich is that it has real, American-style king beds. Not two twin beds crammed up next to each other. It has real linens, pillows, and comforters as well. Nothing against German-style beds, but this is a treat.
All in all, the hotel exceeded my expectations. The internet connection worked well, the windows opened for fresh air, and the bathroom was clean.
On the downside, the neighborhood was a bit off-putting. Sex shops and cheap jewelry stores seemed to be the norm. (Not that I'm a prude, but not exactly the environment I would choose.) The old town is just a few blocks away, though I never felt unsafe walking, even at night.
The hotel restaurant served tasty food at a surprisingly reasonable price. And instead of a mini-bar, the hotel had a "mini-shop" at the front desk where you could purchase beer, wine, and snacks.
All in all, a decent hotel. Not my favorite, but I'd stay there again if the City Hilton was booked again.
OK for a free night with Marriott Points
The hotel is about 2 blocks from the main train station(Hauptbahnhof) and easily walkable. The area is seedy looking with sexxs clubs and strip joints. Nothing for a tourist to see around here. The hotel itself was nice enough...typical Marriott Courtyard.
The front desk people were extremely friendly and capable of answering any questions. The room was nice and fairly clean. The only
thing NOT clean was the down comforter on 1 of the beds had ink pen scribblings. The bedspread also had a couple of drops of dried on
"something" which made me throw the comforter in the corner of the room AWAY from me. We didn't eat breakfast as it was not included in our free room.
If it were not for the fact the room was free with Marriott Points, I would NEVER have stayed here. This was the last night before flying
back to the states. The first 4 nights were spent in the Platzl Hotel
close to the MarienPlatz which was a much nicer hotel in a great location. Do yourself a favor and try to stay near the MarienPlatz
...you will be glad you did.
A Nice Stay at the The Marriott Courtyard
The Marriott Courtyard in Munich is a very nice hotel and certainly up to the standards of the Courtyard group. The rooms were great, the breakfast was fantastic and the staff was very courteous. There was also a fantastic fitness room. You have to pay for internet access but it's not all that expensive. The only thing is that the neighborhood where this hotel is located is not all that nice as it's in the vicinity of the railroad station.
We stayed two nights in mid-December 2006. Staff at this hotel was fantastic. The room was very clean and comfortable; it had a rather funky, modern feel to it. The restaurant / bar staff was especially wonderful. The two young women, both named Nicole, went out of their way to make us feel welcome! Hotel is in a great location, close to the train station and walking distance to everything! Thank you to everyone here who made this stop enjoyable! We will be back!
Great value clean hotel
Stayed for two nights with friends on a leisure trip to Munich..10th and 11th November 2006.
Booked the hotel because I wanted to be near the railway station and easily accessible to the transport system. The area although not bad, contained more than its share of seedy sex bars and strip clubs and we noticed how the "flavour" of the area changed when walking from this area through Karlstor in to the shopping area and beyond.
I have noticed that when searching for Munich hotels, a high proportion of them seem to be around the station area.
This trip was all men so I did not mind staying in this area, however when staying with my wife and young child in a few weeks, we will stay out of the city. (personal choice) and no critisism of Munich which overall feels a very safe city to walk round at any hour.
The Courtyard seems to be a very new hotel and could not be faulted...the plush carpets still smelled new and the rooms were immaculate.
Staff were excellent and very helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of anything that most people would eat. (my friend had smoked salmon, capers, walnut cheese and cake all on the one plate...ugh..)
This hotel was excellent value for a rate of 99euros per night. I would have no qualms about using it again. Location about 5 minutes walk from the station and about 15 mins to the centre of Munich

So, to finish off Gramps and Mom's stay in Scotland, I took them to Stirling and showed them my dorm and around the university on Monday. We also visited the Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument. Well this old blogger turn the Big Five Oh today; we are taking a rest so I thought I would upload some photos from last week that I missed when we had no internet access. I am enjoying my day so far. We visited the Bavarian State Museum; for 1 Euro admission each we spent several hours looking at art going back to the gothic period through the early modern. Lots of things like stone columns and friezes from old churches, ...

After warming up with coffee, we wandered down to our first beer hall, the Augustiner, which has been around since 1328! We ordered two beers (a regular beer is a full liter) and had two more soft pretzels. They are a regular in the bread baskets. After beer, we walked around downtown some more, and eventually made our way to the Frauenkirche. This is ...
