Historical Traveler Reviews of Courtyard By Marriott Montreal Downtown
Disappointig hotel
from sbercher
I have used Marriott hotels worldwide in the past, and this one was
very disappointing. Maybe the "Courtyard" brand is their low-frills hotel
part.
I paid CAD159 (Weekend special) for 1 night, plus taxes. Breakfast was
excluded.
The building itself is a grey, dirty, 60's style skyscrapper. The
reception area and the restaurant have obviously not been updated since the
late 70's, They are dark and overall feel grotty.
We were on the 24th floor with a good view on Mont-Royal and the city.
One very positive remark is the room size, which was huge. It was also
clean and relatively modern.
There were very few facilities in the room (no minibar, no safe) and
the bathroom (no glasses, 1 small soap). Strangely, the coffe machine and
its mugs were in the bathroom (and there was plenty of space to put
them in the room itself).
The most annoying thing was the ice machine right accross our room. Its
constant noise kept us from a restful sleep. As we were staying only
one night, I did not asked to be changed room.
Overall, this is NOT a typical Marriott hotel, more like a Travelodge
or Comfort Inn.
Will probably not use this hotel again.
If the Price is Right...Go For It

We found a deal on expedia that was quite a bit cheaper than booking directly through Marriott. The rooms are clean, but blah. Previous reviewers were right on with their comments - the location is great (central to everything), the bathrooms are small and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. My only real complaint was another issue raised by other reviewers - the pillows and the beds are miserable. However, if the price is right I would go back again.
Great Hotel - Great Location
from DeepFriedGoodness
My wife and I just enjoyed a lovely holiday at this hotel, and can't say enough nice things about it. The staff were very friendly and helpful with all my inquiries. The king sized bed was adorned with fine high thread count linens. The valet was quick and courteous. And the location was great, a couple of blocks from two Metro stations, and a STM autobus stop right out front. Within walking distance of Rue Sainte Catherine and many downtown destinations.
Disappointing for a Marriott

Sight unseen, I booked this hotel because it was a category 4 Marriott hotel, using my Marriott Rewards points. When we drove up to it the next night, the towering concrete building looked more like a housing project than a mid-range Marriott, but we gave it a chance. The price was 155$CAN, expensive for Montreal, and so it must be good right?
Praise first. The location is great. You are downtown, in walking distance to everything. Steps away from St. Catherine, in fact.
The hotel staff was very pleasant and I felt thoroughly welcomed. In fact, after checking in - on the way up to our room - I commented to my partner that you can't go wrong with Marriott.
Wrong. Apparently you can. Let me describe some of the amenities of the room. Washclothes that scratch your face when you use them. Beds so hard that your body goes numb. Pillows that were overstuffed with something crunchy. I mean, I know down is expensive, but what happened to good old cotton fill. After three sleepless hours, we decided we would get a new hotel the next day. For only 25$ more, we were able to book a high-end hotel down the street.
Great staff, great location

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Courtyard for 2 nights in September. We had a lovely time.
The staff were friendly and very helpful. The conceirge made dinner reservations for us at a lovely resteraunt for our anniversary (he even called around places first since I am a vegetarian to ask if they would have menu options for me).
The hotel is in a perfect location. We walked everywhere and didn't need to get the car out of valet. From our room we could see the amazing McGill campus, and Old Montreal was about a 20 minute walk away, while Saint Catherine St was about 10 minutes.
I would highly recommend this hotel for a trip to Montreal. The rates are totally affordable, and you get more than what you pay for.
GOOD LOCATION
from RAYANDRON
The hotel was in a great location just about the center of town. They only had valet parking, and when it was busy, it was hard to find a space to park and there is quite a wait when getting your car. luckily we were mostly walking.
We had two different suites, both were clean, but starting to show signs of age. The king bed was very comfortable, but the pull out sofas in both rooms were unbearable. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Very Nice Hotel!

We visited in the fall of 2003 and found the Courtyard Marriott a very pleasant hotel. Attractive clean room with a view, helpful friendly staff, good location, even a nice buffet breakfast included with our package. Good value also, this hotel surpassed our expectations and we've stayed at some of Montreal's better known hotels in the past and haven't stayed again.
Just fine.

We stayed at the Courtyard in January 2003. The room was nice and had a great view. The location is excellent. My only complaint was that the water in the pool was a little cold.
Marriott Courtyard does the job well

Convenience to McGill University is a priority for us, which makes the Courtyard Marriott on Sherbrook a good choice. We requested a room on a high floor overlooking Mt Real and enjoyed 3 beautiful sunny, fall-color days. The rooms with 2 queen beds are larger than the rooms with 1 king. The staff is friendly, and the accomodations comfortable.
The pool and jacuzzi on the top floor are attractive. Now that the Rennaissance Hotel is a McGill residence, we will make the Courtyard Marriott our hotel of choice when visiting our student daughter. To us, it is cleaner, brighter, and warmer than the Delta across the street.
The location gives us easy access to all Montreal has to offer and we walk everywhere.
Poor Poor Excuse for a Hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Recently we had the misfortune of spending a night at this hotel. It was listed as a three diamond rating, but, we strongly disagree. First of all, their central booking promised us the 3rd and 4th person would be no charge and that the cot would also be no charge. When we arrived, they demanded money for these extras. Finally, when we had the manager check on the internet for herself, they dropped the extra charge. The room was a king suite with a pull out sofa bed. The sofa bed was so old that it was impossible to lie on. The springs felt like they were popping through the worn cover. The bookshelves contained about 50 books all with worn covers and in tatters. Looks like they were bought in a garage sale. The room was very plain and we would give it a 1 star at most. To top off this bad experience, the valet parking, which is the only choice, smashed up our front bumper. With all of the hotel choices in Montreal, do yourself a favour and choose another one.
