Monterrey

... water fountians of different shapes and sizes along the way. It ended in a large park dedicated to the steel industry. Sounds ugly, but there were more free museums, and it was actually pretty (except for the large furnace stacks).

Heading back to the bus stop, and thinking we perhaps should have booked an earlier bus out of town, we started poking around looking for a resturant for dinner. Oddly enough, all the ...

First experience in Mexico (outside of Tijuana)

... of back alley in downtown Monterrey. It has a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom with AC! All for US$10 per night! Sometimes even though we seem to be taken care of - there's just no peace. Monterrey is a BEAUTIFUL city, although very Americanized. After two more meetings were set up for this weekend, we knew we had to cancel and keep moving. It was confirmed by MANY. The people were not happy, but oh well. On to Tampico!

The Journey Begins...

... city surrounded by mountains on 3 sides. It is absolutely breathtaking.
As we were about to head out the door, we were greeted by Jim, the leader of the base. He said,"Wanna evangelize?" We looked at eachother and went upstairs to pray about it. We didn't feel either way, but we came to the conclusion that "Hey, that's what we are here for!" So first he took us to his house to have a sandwich and meet his wife ...

Madness in Monterrey!

... a boat trip around the lake in a boat belonging to Evers' friend Jimmy along with his son also called Jimmy (who also entertained us with their brilliant family band and some great rock and roll!). All in all, Monterrey as great fun, it was great to meet with a familiar face and be shown such a good time with great people. Thank you Ever, Laura and all the Garza family!

Monterrey, MX - Week 1 (Arrival)

... to a friend of hers who lives in Monterrey, Gabriela. As soon I arrived, I called Gabriela, who asked (almost like a mother) how I was, whether I have found an apartment, etc. and told me not to hesitate to contact her in case of emergency. She then took me around town. We had lunch and she helped me find a cell phone (no luck). Her personality was very friendly, almost flamboyant. Then, I moved into my apartment. It's ...

... apparently the tour changes depending on how much water is present in the caves, or how the rocks are. it was slippery in some places but mostly it was just covered in concrete paths. Saturday was fun! we went to Texas to buy clothes. apparently Texas is the cheapest place to buy clothes, with Monterrey having prices as much as double. i got a haircut too. it was such a strange feeling to finally once again feel like i ...

Chipinque Park, Monterrey from the skies

... drove to her house to drop off some of my things, a nice apartment 20 minutes from the airport. the rain was furious! it makes Vancouver's rain look weak... puddles everywhere, it was certainly exciting. the difference being, of course, that it's warm when it rains. like a shower outside with thunder and lightening :P after we dropped my stuff off we drove to Chipinque ...

We love Monterrey!

... was absolutely gorgeous as well! Today is Tuesday, March 20th and it is out first day of school! We all arrived here around 7:30 am and then had a quick tour of the school. It is a very busy day here due to the student council elections. All the PDS students are covered in stickers "Vote for Elisa" etc. They just finished with their study hall and are now in classes for the rest of the day. I am going to try to upload ...

Real de Catorce

... friend. It was so funny, cos every time we walked down that same street afterwards, his friend went into hiding. We leave Real de Catorce, in a jeep shuttle service designed for 5 people, but which actually ended up carrying 14, including 6 on the roof. The driver tried to convince us to sit on the roof, by telling us about the great views we'd be afforded on the way down from the mountain. Common sense told us to stay inside the jeep. Just as well, as ...
