Just a quick update as we are a little short of time. We'll fill you in on our final days in the USA at length shortly. In brief, we had an uncomfortably lengthy conversation with an art dealer who wanted to invite us to his "Turkey" party for Thanks Giving, we've stayed (briefly) in 3 hotels within 24 hours, we've been charged 10 dollars for a cup …
... After that we headed down the mountain - a very windy and steep road. It took about an hour to travel 30 miles to Three Rivers where we had a nice lunch at the Gateway Restaurant and Lodge. Our stay in Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park was tremendous. Our daily itinerary there was planned loosely off a Fodor's Travel site article which surely helped us maximize our time there. We saw the top highlights while having some fun "off-trail" activity as well. We finally ...
... through the traffic we arrive at the Market, more of a open air shopping mall really. We have a walk round but do to the excess of the breakfast this morning we only end up at a bar for a couple of pints of Boston Lager whilst watching Brighton vs Watford on the box. We head back to the hotel and arrive approx 13.30pm, we have another tour booked for 3pm so we head back to the room for an hour to get a bit of rest and sort this jet lag out. 3PM This afternoon we re board the tour ...
... but they were all booked!!! I really wanted to open the sun roof and yell IM IN HOLLYWOOD. Arrive at the hotel and get taken to our outside table. Alex is scanning the room for celebs and straight away spots A billy bob Thornton look alike sitting with Heizenberg from Breaking bad. It's full of obviously wealthy people who are there to be seen. The meal was amazing and drinks delightful, even after witnessing some Aussie ...

get my life to this exact moment, I am in a very good place. From where I
stand it would be a shame if I forgot that I dug myself out of my own
It does not need to be a holiday for people to
remember what they have to be thankful for. I guess I just wanted to
take a moment to remind everyone of how important it is to think of life
basics...be good to each other.

Historical Traveler Reviews Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Marina del Rey
We booked the Courtyard Marriott in Marina Del Rey after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and we got what we expected. The hotel itself and rooms are clean. We had a double room with 2 beds and when we arrived got a room overlooking the parking lot, which we didn't like. The reception was very kind and offered us an alternative room on the 5th floor. It was more sunny, but on the other hand overlooking the heavy traffic on one of the main roads. I am not too bothered about some traffic noises and it was quite calm at night anyway. If I would visit the Marriott again I would recommend to try and get a room with a view to the pool, as the garden is (although small) quite nice and it is probably more quiet.
Stayed 3 nights here while in town for a wedding. Room and service were completely adequate for the price (wedding-party rate of 119/night.) Pool area and restaurant/lounge are rather nice.
Moldyfilthy rooms-vulgar manager (this is my 1st ever negative)
the first room i stayed in had obviously been flooded and was foul smelling and mildewed... i arrived after the primary staff had left for the night and was not able to change rooms ...dusty musty unable to sleep ...the next morn ing i was moved to an identical room with dirty carpet and black gunk under the bath mat...i have never encountered hotel personel loud and menacing as the night manager ... the other staff members were fine ... although i had already paid for three nights i moved to the marina international hotel which was clean and lovely...
Like an expensive motel
It is the first time we stayed in a Courtyard. Looking for something higher than a motel, we selected this place. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the small room lightly equipped. The bathroom with is small and degraded. For 180$/night it is not acceptable.
Anyway, the room was clean, the pool is great, the location is perfect (in a shopping area and 1 mile away from the beach) and the 10$ breakfast buffet is a great value.

This hotel has a great location. I have been staying here at least 1x/month for the past 5 years for business, but recently they keep increasing their prices and for $30 more, you are better off at the full scale Marriott on Admiralty Way. This hotel is nothing to write home about!
Stayed at the Marina del Rey Courtyard for the last two nights of a recent vacation (mid-Jan 2005).
Frequent guest; quite pleased
I've been a guest at the Courtyard Marina del Rey on several occasions. I've never been disappointed. The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the guest rooms are well-appointed. For a business traveler, the central location is a big plus, as is their free high speed Internet access. An excellent breakfast buffet helps start the day on the right foot. Their omelettes made to order are just delicious. Enjoying an evening refreshment while overlooking their picturesque pool area is quite relaxing and caps the day off nicely.
This hotel was terrific. The rooms were good size and the showers full of hot water and great water pressure! The staff downstairs was always there with an answer to any question we had. They gave a highlighted map to the locations we were headed for and told us how the traffic would be at the time too. This hotel is located in a strip shopping type center which houses Bath and Body, Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, lots of restaurants and a grocery store. The linens were clean and blankets warm. The air-conditioner stayed cold through the night. The breakfast buffet was amazing. I had the best omelette made at the omelette bar. We stayed on the fifth floor (the top) and had no noise issues. The hotel is also renovating one of the floors but we heard nothing. We called down for an extra blanket one night and less than 5 minutes later the blanket arrived at our door. I am very pleased to have stayed at this hotel and would do so again. Although I did not use the fitness room there were many people using it. Also we had free high speed internet access and during the week a free newspaper.
Hotel is located in shopping complex so is easy walk to lots of restaurants, movie theatres (2). Short distance to the actual Marina. Venice beach and Santa Monica are a short drive away. Easy access to freeway.Hotel is good value for money. Some traffic noise in the morning. Good size pool and hot tub. Laundry facility available (nominal charge). Front desk staff are very helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay again.Tip: Cheesecake Factory is a 10 minute drive.Downside: Quality of breakfast needs to be improved.
I was very disappointed at our stay at this hotel. We were on our honeymoon and thought the Courtyard would be fine for one night. The hotel is located right off a major intersection and there is a lot of road noise all night long. The linens were horrible! The pillows smelled like wet dog and the mattress was literally 3", it felt like a blanket. When I told the front desk of my concerns the next morning they told me they would "pass my concerns to the manager." Gee, thanks!
