Smoky Mountain Railway

Dear Family and Friends,

Today we spent the day on a train excursion traveling on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, only 9 miles up the road from our hotel in Cherokee. Lasting 4.5 hours, the trip took us around 60 miles round ...

... and realized that you cannot run away from your calling. What am I going to do? Pray for patience, I know..someone will care

After my training, I was pumped and went to the national forest here called Conagree National Park. It was not that large, but had beautiful large trees. The man said that they had some of the largest trees in the East Coast. I took lots of pictures as you can see. I took a jog around the boardwalk ...

Some Final Comments...

... play the part of a tart. What more could I ask for but to see wonderful ballet dancers tell the story of the tragic love affair between the mentally ill crown Prince Rudolf and his 17 year old mistress, while Michael And Maggie danced behind us and Keith snored and slept on the velvet chaise. Of course I loved it-all of this set to a score by my favorite Franz Liszt-I SCREAM BRAVO! Prague is time's magpie surviving the bombs and the burnings-the ...

South of the Border

5pm

South of the Border is this rediculous stop on I 95 just south of the South Carolina and North Carolina border. Hence the name. Anyway, they have huge dinasour statues, gift shops, and terrible food. I have been wanting to check it out all summer and I'm stoked I finally did. I bought a bag some nic nacs and a tank top. Tyler got a blanket.

We didn't take any pictures. It just wasn't that kind of a visit.

Cacky Town

... up at this very awesome bar with fish nets and stuffed fish on the walls called The Salty Nut. Thpogh the name didn't match the decor, it seemed like a fun place.

After a beer or two Ty and I realized that every guy in the bar had tan cacky shorts. Tyler had frayed cargo shorts and I was wearing jean shorts. We aparently didn't recieve the memo.

We didn't stay out too long.

A Waterfall, Meters, and Cookies

... having a Summer Concert Series Saturday nights with live music and food vendors. We circled around a few streets before we found a metered parking, paid our $2 in quarters and went down to the park. It was absolutely lovely. There was a spiral water fountain that cascaded down a 40 foot trail into a lake. To make it better, there were swings set up around the waterfall so that you could just sit back and relax.

After ...

Leaving on a Jet Plane

... I've downloaded podcasts of Spanish lessons so hopefully will be able to brush up a bit on the plane ride. The only other thing that makes me a bit nervous is altitude sickness. Cusco is over 10,000 feet above sea-level and supposedly they have oxygen tanks around the Cusco airport so that you can walk up and take a drag. I'm sure that will be an adventure - even if I don't get sick, I'll still have to assist any of the students who do. Maybe we have a hearty group!

Heading Home

... So, we were in bed by 10:00 p.m. That gave us an early start this morning. We were on the road by 8:30 a.m. If we drive straight thru, our ETA would be midnight. However, we will not drive straight thru. With the snow fat home, we will not be able to pull the camper and truck into the driveway. So, we will stop overnight and arrive early afternoon tomorrow. :-)
I checked my voicemail before i went to bed ...

... in love with me. So yes, I'm blaming Alex Trebek for the fact that Alanis Morrisette isn't in love with me. And some of you wonder why I always end up doing these trips alone. My choice to take a room at the motel was a good one. When I awoke just before dawn it was -5 degrees Celsius. I cranked up the Roadmaster's defrost and set out along US Route 219 into the Applachians. I hadn't really planned much of a route for the day. I hadn't planned much of this ...
