The Windy City is warm and humid today. We arrived at 3pm but by the time we got to the hotel in downtown, it was close to 5pm. A welcome warm shower and change of clothes made us feel brand new.... Not really but a bit refreshed at least. Liz is having 40 winks to recover from the combination of lack of sleep and feeling ill during the flights. …

Shy-Town

I went to Chicago, in March of 2007, to watch my former boyfriend graduate basic training for the Navy. We visited the Navy Pier, various restaurants (including Bubba Gumps!) and took a drive through downtown. I also went on a boatride in Lake Michigan. Wonderful :)

Lollapalooza 2007

A travel blog entry by hopskipper

Had a great time with my buddy Sean for 3 amazing days at Lollapalooza. Saw Pearl Jam, The Black Keys, Muse, Daft Punk, and a **** load of other great acts. From there went with Sean to stay at his brother's house about an hour outside of Chicago. Very rural....but had a good time and saw rain going sideways. Went back to Chicago when and hung out …

We stayed for 3 nights. Was a great location, within walking distance to great shopping and restaurants. 1 mike to the lake.

    Exemplary Service & Great Location

    from

Recently stayed at the Courtyard (Downtown, 30 Hubbard) and had a wonderful visit. Of course, the greeting upon check-in typically sets the tone for a guest's stay. My experience with Brian, guest service agent, was a very pleasant one. In today's all-too-frequent "next customer" mentality and the all-too-prevalent impersonal service, Brian's customer service approach definitely helps to set this hotel in a league all its own with the personal touch.

Above Average on "That Great Street"

    from

I stayed at the Courtyard Chicago Downtown in December, and I was really impressed with this hotel. It's on the corner of Hubbard and State, a few blocks south of the Chicago River and Chicago Theater (where all the action seems to be) and a couple blocks west of Michigan Ave. There are other hotels with better locations, but this is just fine, especially if you stay here in the warmer months.

Excellent homebase for a weekender to Chicago

    from

We stay here regularly on weekenders to the City and love it every time. While the other Courtyard Downtown is newer, this one is loaded with amenities. The rooms are pretty much the standard-issue Courtyard rooms, but on the (sixth?) floor, there is a lap pool, jacuzzi and outdoor terrace complete with two Weber Grills! There's a grocery store around the corner, so we have midday cookouts on the rooftop between seeing the sights. The restaurant tends to be a little too expensive (high prices/average quality=poor value) for our tastes, especially considering that there are COUNTLESS restaurants within a block of the hotel offering a much better value. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel as a great homebase, although it is not a destination of its' own.

    Nice hotel and good location

    from

I stayed here for two nights on business in July 2004. No complaints with this hotel. It is in a pretty good location (only a few blocks from Michigan Ave). Navy Pier is about a half-mile away. Walkable. But a free trolley will pick you up on Illinois and take you there. Breakfast was a little pricey ($15 for buffet). But it IS downtown Chicago. So that wasn't entirely unexpected. Staff was very courteous. Room was clean and comfortable. Room size was average. Lots of restaurants within a 3 block radius. Free hi-speed internet access available in the room. I did hear some street noise. But it wasn't enough to keep me awake. I didn't check out the pool. I'll consider staying here again if I'm in the area.

    Good location, but small room...

    from

Apparently many of the King rooms here are small--other reviewers have mentioned spacious rooms, maybe they were 2 doubles--but my King was small. They managed to fit a love seat, coffee table, desk, and dresser into the room, and it was fairly comfortable, but nothing at all special. Street noise here is definately a problem (and I was on the 14th floor)--since the windows are not soundproofed.

    Pleasent stay

    from

I stayed at the Courtyard in Feb 2004 for Founders Week. The hotel was right in downtown and that was really awesome. Everything was in walking distance. The rooms were nice and clean. The best part was that it was cold and snowy and by the pool area it's all galss so you're sitting in a jacuzzi and right next to you is the snow on the other side of the window and a nice view of downtown. I do recomend this hotel when staying in Chicago.

    Average stay.

    from

My stay in this hotel was average. The room was quite small and the heat wasn't working right, but it was clean. The pool and spa was not what I had expected! It smelled like dirty feet, the floor needed to be cleaned. The staff was very helpful and freindly and they didn't mind holding our luggage while we shopped after check out. The location is great and the parking garage elevator is located just outside the lobby. The Mag. mile is just a few blocks away, as well as many resturants. Overall I had an average stay here. With so many other hotels so close by, I will choose another when I return to Chicago.

    Loved this hotel

    from

Great place to stay. Good location, close to bus line and trolley to Pier. Quiet, clean roomy.

    Loved the pool

    from

This hotel made my stay in Chicago just wonderful. The pool indoors with the adjacent deck with lounge chairs outside overlooking the city was the best part. The room was comfortable and very clean. My only complaint was that the front desk attendent was not friendly.

    Great hotel, Great location

    from

I have stayed at this hotel three times and I enjoy it more each time! It is just a couple blocks from the "Magnificent Mile" and has dozens of restaurants just around the corner (literally!). You can walk almost anywhere of interest from this hotel- shopping, Water Tower, Sears Tower, House of Blues, Hancock Building, Navy Pier, the river, etc. The rooms are large and clean, and the service is great! The staff is very knowledgable of the area and can tell you how to get anywhere. It is one of the few hotels in the area to offer an indoor pool, and it has a sundeck next to the pool on the 6th floor that is just gorgeous! I would definately stay here again!
