Einfach genial! "Iron Horse" Translation: Steam Engine Train

Today we drove into Sacramento so that I could see the capitol. It was even prettier than I expected it to be--not as impressive as Denver's, but more old-world like Montgomery. On our way out of town we saw an old steam engine train crossing the main street. It looked as if it carried tourists--I managed to get a photo. We ...

We'll hit the road on ... July 12th!

How quickly things change without even leaving yet. Due to the heat, we decided to split the original first day's trip into two. First night we are staying at http://www.oasislasvegasrvresort.com Yes, I know it's roughing it (they only have 20 cable channels), but it beats driving ten hours on the first day.

We have been planning our "epic" trip across the West for some time ...

Home Today, Gone Tomorrow

After driving all morning we arrived back home this afternoon. Got to talk to the neighbors about the local happenings. The lawn is looking sad, overgrown and brown, I'm sure our local watchdog is not very happy with us. Oh well I clean up next week. For now I’ve got to finish up the work I brought home and we leave for Santa Barbara tomorrow for a couple of days.

Saga of the Visa, Part 2

Early this morning I left and drove to Lancaster to pick up my mom, then off to L.A. again. This time we didn't need the GPS, we knew the way. We were at the Chinese Embassy by 11:30 and found a parking place in the shade. A good sign! Once in the embassy we went to the 3rd floor where ones apply for the visas. The room is a large room with one wall of windows at which embassy people help those of us needing visas or ...

Day 184 Barstow - Bakersfield - California

... off to find a Latte to have for morning tea and retire to the Castle. The third traveller turned up (more bags in hand) had morning tea and required further assistance for the continued experience. We had discovered that the original outlet shops were back behind the ones we were in, so it was a matter of completing the task in hand then transferring to the next lot. (GREAT!) We managed to complete the first set of ...

... in Zac posing for a few shots with his light sabre. Then its off to Mosaic Canyon. Cass and I tried to find it the first time we were here, but could not find it. This time, we had directions and did not miss out. The sun was starting to drop and we had only 35 minutes to get in, see it and get out (not including the three mile dirt track to the trail head). Zac races ahead with his light sabre waving through the air, fighting off all kinds of bad ...

... that were supposed to hold the binding to the ski were pulled completely up out of the carbon fiber. i had to trick on one of the ancient (i think connelly) combos we had for our 2 ski run! that thing had no edge, but i managed to get my surface tricks out clean, line tricks, and possibly credit for a wake BB...but i found out later they only awarded me 110 pts on that run...wtf? that means no credit even for the surface tricks and line tricks?! oh well ...

Home # 2 (in my life)

... and Ally (whose bubbly-ness way surpasses me). The next stop was Ventura where I set out with this great big plan to sit on the beach, lay out in the bright sun and maybe read a book just to be disappointed by the overcast sky that never stopped being overcast. So much for it "burning off." Oh well. The trip wasn't a total failure. My friend Ally works at the Patogonia store and was able to ...

Route 66 through Bagdad and Siberia

... Indian reservations. New Mexico New Mexico has several fascinating ancient ruined cities and some great unpaved stretches of Old 66. Very scenic mud adobe houses create very picturesque villages (no photos allowed) and some of the towns are amazing. The 'other' Las Vegas where Doc Halliday and Butch Cassidy once tended bars was a real find. Texas One feature of the straighter, smoother parts of Route 66 is the RV (Recreational Vehicle). It's difficult to understand the ...
