Today was supposed to be a rain day so we planned things that didn't require good weather. As it turned out it was a beautiful day - probably over 19 degrees!! We started out at the Folk Center - many great pieces from local artisans including quilting, pottery, paintings, woodworking, jewellery no more. Then we drove to the Builtmore Estate - home of the Vanderbuilts. We didn't actually see it ... A very ...

... chose the route to Mt. Mitchell via Blue Ridge Pkwy. However, partway along, we found that the road was closed. So, we continued along the open road to Waynesville and from there to Burnsville North Carolina. After inquiring at an information center, we discovered that we still had an hour+ to go soooo, we perused a couple of shops and headed back home. We bought firewood and the 4 of us enjoyed a lovely campfire with wine and apps... A great ...

After not seeing each other for 3 months, we decided it would be a good idea for our first activity to be a 2.5 hour road trip (each way) up to Asheville, NC. Two people. One Acura (Japanese Princess). No air conditioning. Roll out.
We tried to go to the Biltmore Estate, but it was CRAZY expensive, so we just went to the city and wandered around in the awful ...

... you to all the different terminals of the airport... And it's a pretty big airport!!! The train was pretty amusing. There was a robot lady who announced where the train would stop but also what happened at one of the stations was that too many people were trying to fit inside and through the doors at once and so the doors nearly closed on a few people and the lady announces "there is someone blocking the door." I just thought that was kinda funny! Found my terminal and spent ...

... wine tasting...and of course buying.

Our day came to an end very quickly. We parted ways with the Ropers as they were heading north to the snow fields and we headed east to Nashville. Now for 4 hours of driving...can't wait for the driving to be over!

P.S. Time has slipped by and I have been unable at this point in time to upload copies of photos of Biltmore taken by Jane. I will have to get them uploaded once we are all settled in Australia ...
