    ... amp; tomatoes on fettuccine. After supper, we went to Ingles (supermarket) to buy a bottle of wine. When we returned to the B&B, Mark lit the fire pit outside & we spent a lovely evening visiting with Marty & Bruce. Marty works in I.T. For the Hubble telescope & Bruce is retired from catering business. Such a nice couple of guys ... Have been together for many years. Went to bed at about 11:30 pm & had a much better ...

    ... evening ... So noisy with the cicadas & frogs chirping away. Murray went right to sleep after finishing a whole bottle of wine by himself & snored all night. I had a heck of a time getting to sleep ... Not sure why. We had the veranda screen door only & both windows open & the ceiling fan on. Didn't need the air conditioning on ... Very nice & cool. Maybe too ...

    Some of the notable guests to this estate were: Edith Wharton; novelist Henry James; HRH The Prince of Whales and three Presidents of the United States - McKinley, Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson.

    After Vanderbilt's death in 1914, he wife Edith sold some of the property to help with the upkeep of the property, as mush of his wealth was spent taking care of this vast property. She ...

    ... and Karen for a spectacular visit. The Movie "Dirty Dancing" was filmed in Lake Lure and, in fact, each year there is a Dirty Dancing Festival which was going on while we were visiting!

    We also visited Chimney Rock with Johnny and Karen as our guides. Quite a remarkable place to see. We picked a day with a great view from the top! Nick did pretty well, but wasn't about to go ...

    It has always been something I've wanted to do - visiting the southern states of the USA. It has an interesting history and is pretty as a picture.
