After a 35 minute flight to Ouahu, we were greeted at Honolulu airport with a shell lei and were taken through heavy traffic to the hotel at Waikiki by a harrassed minibus driver. First stop after checking in, was a walk on Waikiki Beach. The sand was fine and golden and the sea shone in the sunlight with many hues of blue. It could have been …
The flight to Honolulu was in the afternoon so we had our last day on the beach at Santa Monica before being picked up for the airport. Our driver proudly announced that the high school next to our hotel had Charlie Sheen and the lovely Monica Lewinski as pupils. To have been that close to
where Monica once stood was a real highlight.
The hotel staff tried to convince us from Day 1 that they were our "Hawaiian family" and that we should see the hotel as a home from home. How kind but I have to say that I'm not great at all that – certainly, the more cynical would see a commercial angle to their approach. I was therefore happy that our airport pick-up didn’t allow our …
It's great setting the alarm for 6am when on holidays but it soon proved well worth it. The tour guide did seem to be a little over enthusiastic about his plants and trees so it worked out to be a bit of a botany tour at the same time – did you know that Hawaii has 42 different varieties of mango – we do, because he mentioned it about …
Meg and i spent a long weekend (2/25-3/1) on Oahu for her friend's wedding. Oahu was a completely different island than the Big Island. The city of Waikiki is so "commercialize" and "touristy" than any city on the Bis Island. It's hard to believe that a city like that can exist in the middle of the ocean. Parts of Oahu are also very green and off …

Historical Traveler Reviews Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach Honolulu
I stayed at the Wyland from July 28-August 3 and had a great experience. I owe it to other trip advisor users to post my experience on this as this is the reason I chose this hotel.
The hotel is not as big as other big chain hotels like the Sheraton or Hilton but the service you receive is superb. It has a boutique feel to it because it has all the amenities and service without the crowd and price. We were upgraded for free to a partial ocean view room. The room was small but very clean and chic. It has a flat screen tv, good size closet, small marble-countertop bathroom, and a good size lanai. There was a mini-refrigerator with sink, and the use of a safe-free of charge. We had a king size bed and it was very comfortable. I usually have a hard time sleeping in hotels because of the bed but the bed was extremely comfortable. Housekeeping came in daily and did a great job in replenishing the toiletries and coffee.
The pool and jacuzzi are very nice to relax in, as it is conveniently located close to the bar. They have an amazing mai-tai. The newspaper is delivered daily free of charge. All the staff at the hotel were very pleasant and helpful. Any time we asked a question, they were quick to answer it or help us get the information. There is also use of a computer and printer free of charge. One important thing was that we never felt cramped in the common areas of the hotel , it is smaller than bigger hotel chains but spacious at the same time. You never have to wait long for an elevator, which is great when you're tired and just want to go to your room and rest.
The area is ideal because although it's not on Kalakua Avenue, it is a short distance walk to the beach and the restaurants are very close by. Honolulu, especially Waikiki is very commercialized and so you'll find all major restaurants in the area (Chilli's, Starbuck's, Jamba Juice, Ruth Chris, Round Table, McDonald's, IHOP, etc.) easily accessible. The bus stop is right in front of the hotel.
Great newly renovated hotel
My husband and I returned from a one week stay at the Wyland Waikiki last week. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel.
We have both been to Hawaii many times in the past and I think this place represents the best value for money of all the places we have stayed. I booked through Travelocity and got a great super saver special including one free night. I also contacted the hotel directly after booking to ensure they had our reservation and received a quick response confirming our booking. We had let them know it was our one year wedding anniversary and on arrival found we had been upgraded to a partial ocean view suite.
The room was great, everything was new and tastefully decorated. We had a lounge/dining area with a flat screen tv and a kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffeemaker (with daily complimentary coffee) and sink. The bathroom had a movable shower head over the bath with good pressure. There was a large mirror and a swivel magnifying mirror also- great for putting on makeup etc.
The bed in the bedroom was extremely comfortable with all new linen (also a flat screen tv in here) and the maids came in not only to clean the room in the morning but also to turn down the sheets in the evening.
Our balcony ran the full length of the lounge and bedroom with tables and chairs to sit on. The partial ocean view is really only a peep of the ocean but I don't think you could go wrong with any of the rooms here as they all appear to have balconies either over the pool area and street or towards the ocean and street. You are not bang up against any other hotel so should get good light into any room here.
The staff were also great and very friendly. There was never a wait at the desk to talk to anyone. We requested ice one night and had it brought to the room. Another time we asked for some wine glasses and these also arrived promptly. We were also given a late checkout on request at no extra charge and had our luggage stored. Currently there is also free internet access in the lobby and a room full of massage chairs for guest use (with a tv and xbox for those inclined) off the lobby. The chairs were great after a day shopping!
The pool area with hot spa was beautifully landscaped and towels are also available here. This area and all the other public areas (including some cool lounge areas in the lobby) were all almost empty most times we were around which was nice. I imagine it will get busier as word gets out but i'd stay here now if you can!
The spa, gym and coffee shop are not yet open but are not really amenities I would usually use anyway. They were doing a little finishing work around the hotel (some tiling and painting) but nothing to interfere with our stay.
Overall the whole hotel with all the Wyland sculptures and art had a small boutique feel that was really nice. It is a few blocks from the beach but still very central for restaurants (who wants to walk too far at night to eat out?) and shopping and there is a bus stop right outside. I highly recommend a stay here.

GREAT Stay - VERY nice hotel
We had a wonderful stay, the rooms and bathrooms are very clean and you can tell everything is new. The shower stall itself is small but very nice and clean. A microwave, small refrigerator and a sink are in the room. The small/medium sized pool is beautifully landscaped with tiki torches lit at night. The lobby and bar area have great colors, clean lines and is very hip with doors they keep open that lead to the pool. Everyone was very friendly. We went searching for ice one night on our floor and found out that all you have to do is call the front desk and they bring it up to you - very nice.
This is now an Outrigger property and not a Doubletree.
It's still not 100% finished. The bar, coffee shop, restaurant and spa are not open yet but when they do this hotel will really be great. It's not on the water but is within in short walking distance to the main streets. We would definitely recommend to friends and stay here again.
OTTIMA permanenza; hotel MOLTO bello
Loved the Wyland
This hotel is so cool. The rooms are great and the public areas are hip and contemporary. The location is a short walk to some of the best shopping I've ever seen! Can't wait to come back
Beore it opened
The outside of hotel is great. We were in Honolulu from 9/3 to 9/14. Went into Wyland hotel 3 times, front desk was staff was nice, as well as rest of staff. The entrancewa y was inviting from the parking lot. Anticipating the opening of the gallery store, since the one in Honolulu closed as well as the gallery on the North Shore moving. Asked for rates, were told to go to website. Found out today that rates could not be found until November. So, the hotel is open, yet staff does not know rates, which begin in November.
