We arrived in Vienna, Austria, after 16 hours of travel from SLC to Detroit to Amsterdam to Vienna. We took a little (or a lot of;)) nap at the Marriott before
walking to the Schonbrunn Palace (built in the 16th Century). We loved the well-manicured gardens, fountains, and statues! Although the castle was not open at the < …

Our Viennese Whirl

... tiled roof. The cathedral has 23 bells (Alex will love that fact), the largest of which is nicknamed 'Boomer' and is the second largest swinging bell in Europe - I bet you didn't know that! The whole city is full of bell sounds and we loved it, a little reminder of home...

So there you have it, Vienna in a nutshell. In the words of Ultravox, 'Ohhhhhh Vienna'!
(See, I can do intellectual too! So…poo bum! Viennese Whirl's incidentally, are British!)

Day 10: Vienna - Schnitzel time

... on one of the few options available on a Sunday night - the Vienna Royal Orchestra performing works of Mozart and Strauss. We finished the tour with a quick look at the winter palace and then most of us headed to the gardens of the summer palace. The pleasant views of the gardens were complimented by a mid-afternoon drink. After the summer palace, we headed towards the political centre of Vienna - the Austrian Parliament and the Vienna Town Hall. The gardens ...

Vienna The Arts and River Locks

... boat often is touching both sides of the cement walls. The height of the walls can be as high as 27 metres, so when the boat is going down you feel like you are in a submarine, all closed in. Some of the Locks are shaped like a banana so the boat bumps both sides trying to get in and out of the Lock.

... Turkish roast meat sandwich that has captured the hearts (and stomachs) of many international students here in Austria (there are kebab shops on nearly every corner). Once we were sufficiently full, a few of us spent the remainder of the afternoon indulging in an Austrian Sunday tradition: relaxing in a cafe, sipping on coffees and enjoying each other's company for hours on end.

Other than the Vienna trip, the past few weeks have been filled ...

    Typical rip-off chain hotel

Positives - excellent location for visiting the Palace.
Negatives - Very poor value for money. Like many typical 4 star business hotels you get very little for your money and the hotel want to extract every last euro from you. But I have never stayed in a place that makes you buy milk for your coffee.
We have been travelling Europe for over a month and this hotel is the biggest rip off. Even in guesthouses a third of the cot you will find free wifi, and often a simple breakfast included.
Reccomend staying elsewhere and get a taxi ti the Palace with the money you save.
