Wedding Night Nightmare
I had a contract with the Doubletree 4 months in advance before my wedding. They were to hold 10 rooms for my guests and 1 suite for my husband and I. After the wedding we went to the hotel. All of our guests went up to their rooms and the Doubletree did not have our Suite for us! They only had 1 room left in the hotel and it was not our suite. Having a CONTRACT and a RESERVATION CONFIRMATION NUMBER did not matter.
We ended up staying at the Doubletree in the only room left. I requested a refrigerator to be brought up to my room for me to save the top of my wedding cake. They never brought one. They did not have any hot water either! So Good Luck if you pick the Doubletree
Great Location/Good Hotel
This hotel is in a grat loacation. Beach on the front, intercostal waterway on the back. The Water Taxi Is a block away and a great way to see the sights for $5 a day. A lot of places to eat and shop within a few blocks. The room was nice, service was good, outside bar was nice, pool area was good. It is a good middle of the road price for the area with a great loacation. Vallet parking is required but is only $10 a day. We'd stay again, especially in December, the weather is fantastic!
Location is the best part
Excellent location near shops, restaurants and beach. They had no inside bar - only one outside and it rained quite a bit and was way windy. Also I was very disappointed to learn they do not have a restaurant for dinner - only breakfast and lunch???? If these are important to you call and ask them about these items before you book it.
Great location, good value
Great location, across from the beach. Our room ($50/night midweek from priceline) was great. The room had an ocean view but was a bit shabby - nothing really dirty, nothing broken, but everything just a tad past its replacement date. Service from the front desk (we checked in at 11 PM on a Tuesday) was outstanding. The restaurant was something else again. After being seated, waited 20 minutes to place order them another 30 to get it - cold eggs! Avoid the restaurant (there are plenty of others within a block either way).Otherwise, this is a good stopover on the way to or from a port Everglades cruise.
I traveled to flordia on a business/pleasure weekend and had the pleasure of staying at the doubletree oceanfront, one of the best hotels I have had the pleasure of staying in EVER!! With Very big rooms at reasonable rates, oceanview and valet parking this hotel is off the chains. The bathroom was big as heck, the pool had a bar beside it and it is right on the strip of the beach where resturants and night life is walking distance from the hotel.
I have stayed at this hotel many times. The location is ideal. The beach is right across the street! And the hotel is convenient to all the beachfront shops and restaurants. A car is nice to have and parking is not too expensive. There is much more to Ft. Lauderdale than the beachfront and taxis are expensive and slow. Watch out for bird droppings. The parking lot has many trees full of birds. My car was attached by bird droppings one night and the hotel cleaned it (for free after I asked them to do it). Don't stay for the free breakfast...it is horrible. Go somewhere nice. There is a restaurant outside the hotel across from the beach where you can sit outside. Access it from the hotel pool area. Oceanfront rooms are amazing. Too bad they don't have balconies...but more desirable than the balcony rooms. Much better views. Ask for a corner room. Corner rooms are huge. I would not stay anywhere else in Fort Lauderdale. Though it has a few problems, I have grown to love this hotel because of its great location and value.
Had a great time!
Just spent a 4 day weekend with my wife, stayed at the Doubletree. We had an absolute blast! You are right in the middle of all the action and cruising. If you enjoy people watching, it is world class - as good as Vegas! The hotel is fine, the staff was nice. I would recommend the Intercoastal room with a view from the 7th or higher floors - just beautiful at night! The pool area was very nice and you are about 25 feet from the beach. Great coffe and muffins right around the corner. You don't need a car, we walked everywhere we wanted to go. Bring your dancing shoes! We especially enjoyed all of the sidewalk cafes and eateries. What a blast! 89 degree weather in February! yee haw!
The oceanfront rooms don't have a balcony. Just closed windows. So, I switching rooms so I can open a door to a balcony, and the first room I tried, couldn't budge the door open, the second room, it took a lot of muscle to get it open. The tub was clogged. They did correct that. The heat unit spit out something black. Overall, this place needs renovation of the structural kind, which I suppose is more $$$ than replacing the carpet, so it will take some bucks. However, I feel doubletree has a repututation, and unless they want to lose it, they will ignore these situations. The cleaning staff did the best they could. I didn't complain about cleanliness.
Heaven on Earth?
Wow! when they said Oceanfront, they weren't kidding! i was only at the doubletree for one night, but i wish that i had stayed there for a month! the location was excellent! a short walk to tons of restaurants and shops (i managed to get bottled water, a snorkel mask and linguine with clam sauce all on the same street on a short walk!) the beach is beautiful and it's only footsteps away! sadly, it was terribly windy when i was there (dec 2002), so i didn't get to fully enjoy it, but i sat out there with a camera watching the palms sway. the pool at the hotel is nice, really small though-- and the hours were not that great (but i went in after hours, and none of the staff that saw me stopped me)-- the staff was great and i LOVE their idea to give you a cookie when you arrive! I would stay here again in an instant!! i had a view of the waterway, the room was huge, bathroom was fine, and the entire hotel was very pretty. my whole trip to florida was fabulous, and the doubletree oceanfront started it off with a beautiful bang!
The doubletree has the perfect location
The Doubletree Ocean front is the perfect location.
Directly across the street is the beach. It is located right next door to the beach front shops and restaurants. You can walk everyone and there is no need for a car. I had a large, beautiful corner room with windows on two sides. I found the bathroom a little small. The pool is small, but there are lots of areas for laying in the sun and there is a nice pool bar for drinks.

We've several friends who take annual cruises and highly recommend them, so we decided it was time to check it out for ourselves. This was my husband's first cruise and my second (my first being over 10 years ago to see Jamaica, Grand Caymans and Cozumel with three friends). My husband had heard about the Royal Caribbean ship the Allure of the Seas …

Day 36 – Wednesday 5th September
We had booked to swim with dolphins today at the Miami Seaquarium, so after a nice sleep to recover from yesterday's stress, that's what we did. It was a bit of a hassle getting there, because we had the wrong address, so we went from being really early to really late. Ahh well, we got there in the end. And it was amazing! First of all we had to put on ...
