Off to see the Chau family

Winnipeg to Saskatoon 487 miles (784 kilometres) 8 hours 44 minutes estimated driving time Good drive today again. Rained for about the first half of the trip but sunny skies as we arrived in Saskatchewan. ?Had a picnic lunch in Wolseley SK. The Prairies are not as flat as some would have you believe! Jane drove for the last couple of hours of the trip and George had a snooze complete with major snoring! Left Winnipeg at 7:50 and arrived in Saskatoon at 4:10 CST...apparently SK doesn't go to ...

Hello Saskachewan, try saying that when drunk!

... by the University of Saskatchewan campus, the city is alive with students cycling, walking and jogging through the streets. The downtown area was filled with people actually going about their daily business, a sight so rare in most towns we have passed through so far. There is not a lot to do in the city to be fair, but it has a warm friendly feel to it. We took in another cheap Tuesday cinema trip, this time Zombieland which gets 2 out of 5.

Culture Shock or reverse culture shock???

... public wear gets put on the ‘work wear’ shelf.

I am spending time in the malls these days because there are a few things that the kids need for school. Thankfully they both feel there is not a lot that their wardrobe lacks, a positive offshoot of travelling and seeing so many people in need. They were able to pick up bits and pieces of clothing on the trip that they are happy to make use of for school, another good thing. As we wander around looking ...

There's no place like home, there's no place......

We are in a very strange position of being home and yet not having a home to go to. Our home is rented until the 13th of August and so we have been staying with Jim's parents and out at the farm. The farm has been a great break from everything and Jim has been working on his strength from sun-up to sun-down doing various projects.

An art filled day

... the local art community and about his life.  He is an artist who lives in a village of 8 people, in a house where he pays no rent or taxes and is a truck driver when he needs extra cash.  After Art du Jus we went to the Mendel art gallery.  Popular among locals here this gallery mixes modern art with recyclable art as well as what they called school art (art done by kids and teenagers) and a studio where we could create our own art ...

Did anyone say panic?

We are soon going to be homeless! Our renters arrive tomorrow and somehow I am taking time to write my thoughts down. I wonder how we can spend 2 months putting things away, cleaning, putting more things away, and then at the last minute still find more things that have to be put away? Our renters are arriving from Belgium tomorrow evening. They are from a small town which is 25 Km away from Lasne, the Belgian town that the ...

Countdown is on......

... of New Zealand and the beautiful scenery! This is all I have so far but the list will definately grow when I get down there and see what activities there are to choose from. After New Zealand I'm going to Australia for 3 months. I fly to Sydney on Dec 26. No "to do's" as of this moment but stay tuned... Traveling to NZ/OZ has been a dream of mine for like 7 years so it's pretty surreal that it's actually coming true!

Homeward Bound

... there was no snow when we arrived in Saskatoon, but it didn't take long - it dumped "Christmas snow" all the next day. I feel like we've been dropped into the middle of Christmas. We certainly haven't gone through all the Christmas hype and aren't really prepared for the holidays. We don't have a tree up, or lights, I haven't sent my Christmas cards, but that's OK - we'll give it a miss this year. Better to just enjoy. It has been a wonderful 12 months. Refreshing ...

Battle with the onset of my concussion

... of saying toast and jam. If you ever get anything more, you're damn lucky. We wandered around a bit, shopping, playing with the remote-controlled mini pirate ships, watching the dolphin show - and yes, this is all STILL in the mall. Mario bought me Orange Julius to sooth my pain. He's such a gentleman. On the urging of Mario's mom, we head to the town of Vegreville for groceries, ice, and ...
