The street-sides are rich with open-wok food stalls displaying sizeable aluminum pots steaming with spicy bean "Dal" that even the best US Indian restaurants can learn from. Unimpressed with the pilgrimage town of Haridwar
... I went down to the main bridge over the river in order to watch the twice-daily Ganges-worshipping ceremony. This involves the pilgrims lighting torches, carrying them down to the river, then using the torches to light candles placed in tiny 'boats' which are then cast into the waters to float downstream. From an outsider's point of view, it wasn't as compelling a ritual to observe as I was led to believe, but to be fair I was some distance away from the main action.
