I had opted to stay for a couple of days at my folks' place in order to visit with them for a bit and relax in the tranquil Illinois countryside before I disembarked on this trip.
Plus, as an added perk, my mother had offered to drive me to the airport on the morning of my scheduled departure date (which is today!), so I didn't have to worry about arranging transportation logistics.

It truly expands your version of reality to see things that we have no comparison to, to place yourself in the midst of a history that is thousands of years older than anything we have, and to mingle with a people that are clearly as proud of their country as we are of ours. ... they simply looked at me like "oh well". My husband went in later that evening and long story short..they called me a liar, called my husband crazy!!! Never ever had such rude customer service. On top of everything else, the place is disgusting...I was afraid to walk on the carpet without shoes, the bathtub was disgusting, the ceiling looked like it would cave in at any moment..we had 2 quees size beds, ...
... Here are some honorable mentions from the weekend trips I took:
Most historical: Rome. It's hard to beat for obvious reasons.
Most romantic: Prague (not Paris!) due to the hilly terrain, absence of traffic, uniqueness of the small downtown area, and great architecture.
Most relaxing: Sylt, Germany - though the vacation here was made for this purpose. I had just finished classes and ran off to a resort island to unwind.
