... forecast was 90% chance of rain - but once again my good luck held out and I had a cloudy day with just a couple of spots of drizzle.

So off to Route 66 - from Chicago to Lincoln. Most of the way I was in 6th gear and did not notice anything strange with the bike - AND I should have felt comfortable - given that Wild Fire Harley had checked oil levels and cleaned down the bike last night after having to return to them ...

... journey on the very road outside the information centre which was 'The Mother Road'. Illinois, the state we are starting in, has a series of very good R66 signs to show you your way through the state. Some towns along the route are more interested in the history of 66 than others but I am sure if you looked hard enough you would find something about the old road in every town. Today we travelled from Joliet to Wilmington ...

Okay it's not everyone's cup of tea, but we got fascinated by ships and locks 40+ years ago when we went to the UK by ship via the Panama Canal.
Then while in the UK we went on a couple of Canal boat holidays and again we had fun entering the locks but they're a lot smaller so one physically opened and shut ...
